Round Rosehips

Hi,
I've got rosehips growing in my garden which are the round variety rather than the oval ones. I want to use them to make jellies/jams, but all the recipes I've seen on the internet seem to have pictures of the oval rosehips next to them. Can someone tell me if these round ones are safe to use?
Thanks

It depends on the variety of the rose what shape the hips are. Some dogroses have small round hips and rosa rugosa has very large round hips. Both are fine to use.

Thanks for your reply Sarah, I can get cooking now! Think I'm going to try out your Rosehip & Apple Jelly recipe from the website.

Hi Catherine happy.gif

I always used the large round hips that you find on the Rosa Rugosa that grows in lots of hedgerows for making wine, syrup and jams and always had excellent results, the petals of rosa rugosa make excellent wine and jelly as well, the flavour is wonderful. I think all varieties of rosehips can be used, I tend to not bother with the cultivated garden hybrid tea roses though as I have found that they lack the flavour and character of other varieties but that's all down to personal taste.
