Experience with a Herbalist

Hi, I have just started the New Vitality Course on Herbal Medicine. I have seen that in some areas of the UK, opportunities to become an apprentice are there. Sadly I am based in London so the likes of the Cotswolds and for long lengths of time whilst working FT means these opportunities are not up for grabs - for me.

Is there anyone in London who practices happy to have me around on a Saturday / Sunday - for free, to help out, watch, learn etc?

Thanks,
Ellie

Hi Ellie

Take a look on the NIMH site. It will give you contact details for all the medical herbalists and the training clinics in London. Contact them and see what happens. I suspect the training clinics will say they can only take students on herbal medicine courses, but you might find a single handed practitioner who could do with some voluntary help in a dispensary.

If you were wanting to sit in on consultations, I doubt you'll find anyone to oblige. If you did, you'd have to go through registering with the Safeguarding Authority and think seriously about ethical considerations as well as patient confidentiality.

Chris Hedley and Non Shaw sometimes offer herb walks and the like in the London area. If you get a chance to go to anything they put on, go - they are like walking, talking goldmines as far as herbal medicine is concerned!

Best wishes

Sarah

Hi Sarah

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and for your great suggestions and steerage. Totally agree that I wont be able to sit in on any consultations but to be able to discuss, explore and expand on my book learning is so valuable.

Thank you too for the names. Any walks going and I am there!!

Best,
Ellie
