Over Christmas I read once more, this delightful Agatha Christie "Poirot" novel from which I quote:

"The old English Herbalists you know, are a very interesting study. There are so many plants that were formerly used in medicine and which have now disappeared from the official Pharmacopoeia. And it is astonishing, really, how a simple decoction of something or other will really work wonders. No need for doctors half the time. The French understand these things-some of their tisanes are first rate."

Trrue when written in 1942 and true today. In France the tisanes are still available for many common ailments in both supermarkets and pharmacies as they have a "foodstuff" classification and are not affected by the recent EU Directive.

That's one of the reasons I love France so much Kevin, and their wonderful tisane's will be blogging more about those soon and Maurice Messegue. Which Poirot novel was it out of curiosity?
