When your dogs/puppies are in kennels do you recommend cement? if so what are the advantages/disadvantages that you came across?

my kennels are up off the ground built out of P.T.2x6x8 lumber .the kennels sit on top.they are easy to clean also. my pup's never hit the ground until 3 months old. the thing about concrete is that it's not cheap and after you put it down it's thier for ever. if i had to move my kennel's all i need to do is take mine apart and put it back up somewhere else. www.weberspitbulls.com

Thanks for responding. I would like to see a set up of the puppy kennel you build.

Jason I agree with weber. Which ever way ya go its a trade off. Cement is good for its ability to keep clean and keep the dogs out of the dirt and mud. But the trade off is its tough on their feet and joints and permanent. I like the sound of webers setup keeps pups off the ground which is manadatory in my mind. Richard Hughes has a cool setup for puppies check with him about how to set that up. I like medium gravel but the downside to that is everytime ya scoop poop ya scoop gravel so it kinda eats itself so to speak. I try to keep the number of pups down around here lol.

Let us know how ya come out
Brian

Thanks for responding. It seems to be that in either direction I decide to take the setup, there will be the "good and bad."

Why do you want the pups off the ground other than to be able to spray waste away? I don't have an opinion one way or the other but am looking for opinions on how to do it because I need to build something in my yard.

Here is a pic and you can kinda see what I keep my pups in. It has an expanded metal floor and I keep them in it until they are about 3 months old or so.

a good breeder keeps his pup's up off the ground until 3 months or so to keep them healthy to many problem's with them being on wet.muddy ground evev fire ants. and you don't want them walking around in thier piss/****. thats why i also use exspanded metal on the floors on my pup pen's also. and do'nt just wash away the **** /piss pick it up and throw it away. keep your yard clean.
