I have 2 dogs and a brand new baby...How long should I wait to introduce them? My girlfriend and her mother feel like we need to get rid of them. I am willing to step up to the plate and have thus far. I am a big pit advocate and am alone in my endeavour to keep the dogs and raise the child. It would be easier if I was supported but it's being made hard. How should I handle this situation?

I have 2 kids ages 6 and 5 they have been around pits since the time they were born-introduce the baby to the dogs while they are young-never leave them alone-you dont want the dogs to get confused and accidentally think they are a chew toy-so stay around at all times with the child if the dogs are around -I know where you are coming from because my parents wont even come to see me because i have them-no matter what i still will have them-If you are a responsible owner then you know what you should do-its common sense between right and wrong-i would never leave my baby with a dog that barely knew my kid and my kids are still not even at the age of 5 and 6 aloud around them alone-just because they are against the breed doesnt mean nothing-NONE of my dogs have ever hurt my kids and I know plenty of other people on this board that will tell you the same thing-besides my daughter was attacked by a chiuhaha at 2yrs on the leg for no reason and we had to call animal control-that is a 5 pd dog and i had a friend in high school hows face got ripped open by a weenie dog and she had to have several stitches -so its not just by a breed it can be any dog at anytime just make sure your always there-and always be cautious because the last thing we need to see is another news heading again because of an accident

thanks
please dont take nothing wrong i said

Our daughter, Kailee, is now a year old, and we have 2 inside Pits and a handful outside. We introduced her immediately to the family of dogs. Kailee received kisses from all. The worst thing was their tails. The dogs will accept her, and as long as you don't seem nervous, the dogs won't be either.

I will post pics of them playing in the house from 2 months to present. My human family was extremely nervous because of the drama associated with the "pitbull". But all feelings have changed now that they have seen the dogs around Kailee. If you live here in Oklahoma, feel free to email me or call 405-255-3251, and come see our kids (dogs and baby) play and interact.

On the home page of this very site you can see a picture of my youngest boy hugging a female of mine at age 2...he is now 7 years old and has been diagnosed as being Autistic...so that is even more reason for myself to be doubly responsible...every single one of my dogs and I have had as many 44 on the yard, currently have 22 simply love him...he is not allowed down inside a dog's area unsupervised and the main reason for that is not because I'm afraid the dogs would be aggressive towards him because i'm certain they would not,it's simply because my dogs are all on chains and sometimes a young dog on a chain just simply does not understand they can injure someone by wrapping that chain around them.
Always take precautions, supervise at all times, socialize them regularly and often and use good common sense...if a dog get's carried away or too excited at any time, correct them immediately and show them how you want them to act. It's more about you then anything else...if you ever get completely complacent you are asking for a mishap...always keep a close observing eye on every single move and supervise with authority and control, don't ever allow your child to be in a compromising situation where you are not in charge...if you leave your child with someone lay some ground rules before you leave and make sure they are strictly adhered too!
I lay hands on every single dog of mind and bless them with a special annointing in the name of Jesus and speak a mind of good temeperance over them all and ask that God keep a watchful eye on my son at all times, trust me I have been very blessed with no human encounters on my yard in 25+ years!Good Luck!

Our son turned 2 in August. He has been exposed to our dogs since day 1. He loves them and vice versa. He is now getting where he wants to help his daddy feed dogs at night. I believe that you should take the intro slowly and teach the dogs how to act around the baby.

...and now... lol...We can't keep him off the track!!!

Wendi and Todd, i met yall at James pull he had early this year. There was a baby girl that aparently got 4 of her toes bit off by a 6 week old pitbull here in Sherveport,Louisiana. I took that pic of your son and the 2 pits on the couch and sent it to Nancy Grace. She was making it a big deal because of the dog that done it not where the parents were. Supposedly the parents were asleep on the floor and the baby was asleep in the car seat next to them. But the child had 4 toes bitten off before the parents were wakened to the babys crying!! BS!!!

THANKS,
JOEY BOUDREAUX

Thank you all for your responses. I am positive my dogs will not be aggresive towards my daughter. I have started introducing them and I like the reactions that I am seeing but my girlfriend gets all edgy and wants me to put the dog up. I think her parents are in her head. I am trying guys. Thatnks fir the support.
