I used to look at this website a few years ago and there was once a story on here about a pit bull that saved a boys life when he fought with a bear in a shed or something like that. Anyways I was wondering if anybody has a link to this story?

Eric,
That is correct that dog belonged to Tom Lagos in Adams,NY...and that's right Robbie,it was a littermate to that dog of yours...it even made the local newspaper there in that rural upstate NY town right on the border of Canada/US...that dog was a 107# black male from BulletXQueen Richa litter. Thanks!

Eric,
In the previous post I quoted the dog was 107# that is his current weight as of today,he may even be a little heavier now it has been a while since I last talked with Mr. Lagos...in the story he was in the 80's I believe...he was just a puppy...here is that story you inquired about...you can find it by going to page 45 at the bottom of this page in the archives...Thanks!

Thanks Mr. Bates continued

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I grabed my rifle and ran to the smokehouse thinking the worse ( if you know black bears you will undertand my concern for little bullet, when a bear is cornered they are MISERABLE ) when I got to the smoke house little bullet was on his back locked onto the bears throat I shoot the bear. The bear was not the biggest but it weight 268 pds, but little bullet is only 8 months old. Little bullet was going to die or kill the bear. I have been around the breed all my life and I have had dogs who also would have thrown down on the bear as alot of you probably have, but an 8 month old pup !!! Thats being game, but it also shows intelligence and temperment, little bullet first tried to keep my boy from going in, then when he was left with no choice threw down on the bear. Thats being game not mindless aggresion, which some breeders today think is being game. If anyone up here in the east wants a quality dog that personifies our breed with gameness, temperment and loyalty with size ( little bullet is 8 months old and two weeks ago weight 84 pds. ) call Mr Bates. He and his dogs are the real deal. continued

Thanks for the story guys. I wanted this because of a recent biting by a pit bull in my town. Some lady left her son with spina bifida near a puppy and the dog bit his foot or something like that. Anyways I wanted this story to show people around here that the dogs are great, loving dogs and show some of the stuff that the media doesnt show the public. Anyways thanks for the help.
