I am located in Georgia and am interested in swapping a hog hunt in Texas for a hog, deer, turkey, coon, or gator hunt here in Georgia. I have plenty of references and pictures on request. Thanks for your time.

Hey Randy, I like the 45-60lb range for my catch dogs. We tried American Bulldogs but they were just too much dog. My best catch dog at the time is a 52lb, 4year old redboy/jocko bred dog. I believe robbie asked about the catahoula dogs, in my experience they are excellent hog dogs. I have a couple of cat/bmc mixes that I wouldnt trade a thing for. If any of you would like to make a trip to georgia to hunt, pack up and come on.

One of the hardest hitting catch dogs I have ever seen was a pitbull x catahoula mix. He would bay as well. 55# or so ...outstanding hog hunting dog.

We have a pretty good string of young plotts that we are starting to hunt alot and are doing real well. I have some 1/2 plott 1/2 catahoula, bmc puppies out of some good stock if anyone interested. call 918-441-0647. georgia hogman if you come this way give me a holler. Robbie Dont know if you remember me or not but you said you would show me a thing or two on the weight pulling. Soon as i get caught up i will get with you to get a little schooling. and by the way catahoulas are great on hogs.

That is definately not to young to start your dogs, but I would suggest a little smaller pig. I like to start my pups at about 10-12 weeks letting them chase the piglets around the yard, and as they increase in size I increase the size of the pig. At about six months old I take them on their first hunt and usually let a good catch dog start, then let the little guy or gal get his feet wet. The hardest part about training a catch dog is teaching them where to catch to make my job easier and to avoid injury to themselves. hope this helps.
