I am thinking about using Ivermectin 1% as a wormer and heart worm protection this summer. Can someone tell me the dosages and intervals to use for heart worms and also for control of things such as worms or mange or anything else that it can help with? My dogs range from 60-80 pounds at maturity. I have two puppies 6 months old that are between 40-60 pounds now. Also what other things can Ivermectin 1% help with.

Thanks,
Ryan

I've used it for years and I give 1-10th of a cc per 10 lbs, I think the bottle says 1 cc per 110 lbs hope this helps.

One bottle will last a long time. Ivermectin works well in my opinion. I would advise you to do some more research for your own benefit. You might find something that works better for you.

What exact brand do you guys use? How often do you give them this? Also is there a different dosage and how often you should give it to dogs for things other than heartworms.

I used the liquid IVOMEC brand. Use the same dosage Greg listed and you should be ok. I would give them Ivomec and Round and Hook wormer at the same time.

Ryan,
The Ivomec brand is the highest...you can get a good generic brand that is just as good...just make sure it is the 1% sterile solution Ivermectin...dosage is a Greg told you...1/10 cc or ml per 10 lbs. of body weight 80 lb dog gets 8/10's of 1 cc...be sure to mix the Ivermectin with a canine liquid vitamin to cut down on the burning...here is what I do...draw the Ivermectin up in a 3cc syringe first, the draw up the remainder of the syringe with red cell canine vitamins, the vitamins reduce the burning sensation of the Ivermectin if dosed orally...do not just squirt straight Ivermectin in the dog's mouth,if you do he is gonna sling his head and get rid of it cause it burns his mouth,so you have to cut it to get them to take it without fighting them. You give it once a month every month!

Thanks to all that posted. Where can I get some canine red cell? Is this available through a place like TSC?

Be careful with Ivomec 1%.

The 1/10th cc per 10 pounds of body weight rule is actually 37 times the necessary dosage to kill heartworm microfilariae.

An 80 pound dog only needs 0.02 ml for heartworm prevention.

0.02 ml is less than a 1 drop!

Before you use a ivermectin product, have your dog checked by a certified vet for heartworms. Ivermectin will only prevent a dog from getting heartworm if he is not infected. (when used properly). If he is infected, Ivermectin will not do anything. Ivermectin will not get rid of other parasites trait. Strongid is recommended by the American Veternary Assoc. of ridding other parasites in your pet. Also remember their is also a separate treatment(pill) for tape worms that you can by at most feed stores.

Flea and tick season is coming and we have used sulpher in and around our facility for years and it kills them all. We only have to apply it once a year and it last the entire year. It may stink a little bit but it gets down in the soil to kill and prevent any insect infestation and snakes hate sulpher. It is a very inexpensive way for healthy maintenance of your yard.

To those that will be traveling this season, please invest in a kennel cough vaccine. For those that remember ADBA Nationals in Illinois a few years back, it is well worth the money. You can now purchase the vaccine at Tracter Supply for five dollars.

good luck to all
Earnest

Ryan we dose our dogs with Ivermectin by squirting it in a piece of hamburger meat or cheese or something tasty. The stuff is really nasty by itself (its actually an injectable product).
