Short sessions work for all dogs. If you can do 10-20 minutes a day you will be fine. If at anytime you loose the dogs attention or he seems to be getting bored, stop there and continue the next day.

I think it really depends on the puppy. At 7 months they are really in the middle of growth spurt. We are still training basic sit, stay, turn, etc commands at that age. If the pup has learned the basics then we start them out on just a 20lb chain 100 yards for a couple of weeks (working every 2 days). EACH DOG IS DIFFERENT!!! Once the pup has good form and MIND with that we increase the chain weight in 10 lb increments. ALWAYS paying close attention to the pup.
Its not about the amount of weight in the beginning, its about building the mind and attitude of the pup and its bond and trust in you.
JMO_ Always put the animal first, not your pride or bragging rights. You can break their confidence in themselves and you QUICKLY and ruin what could have been a great dog.

Anonymous,
You have to find what works for you...I believe the younger you start, the easier to train...I've waited on some dogs and had a hard time trying to work out the kinks...start young and work em' steady the 1st 30 days straight...just working on the basic commands, starting, stopping, sitting, staying and getting used to the harness, but do it everyday...if you progress to pulling a bottle with rocks keep it fun and light, but keep it regular and routine...once the dog understands all the basics and has his mind right then began to work him with some weight, then you have to determine what works for you...I have routinely worked my dogs every single day M-F for years and had good results...this year I have changed and lessend that to every other day and really have not seen much difference...once the heat settles in I focus a lot on conditioning coupled with strength training!

I am sorry I didn't realize that I was not logged in. My son logs me out to log into his. I am Pitcountypits, friends with Apodaca Kennels and he has been coaching me on some techniques as well. I think everyone for replying and for the information. It is nice to go to a board where a newbie can ask questions w/out being bashed. I look forward to bugging ya'll with more questions.
Also Mr. Bates are you saying you work puppies 7 months old Mon-Fri. or 7 days a week?
Thanks again
Dave
