APA Weight Pull

Jennet,
I suggest you go to the APA website and check out what is going on in April and try to plan right now around that...there is a King Of The Rails-West event going on the end of April in West Plains,MO...most people that visit this board would more than likely pull at this event...so a tune up event before that date could be a good thing.I would definitely make your event.New rule changes this year have created a few new awards...instead of 8 trophies overall, there are 12 now...just wanted to make sure you were aware of those changes...if you have any questions feel free to call and I'll do my best to help you all I can.

If you use a rail system the turn out will be better. To me that is the only advantage.

Thanks Greg,Any one else as to why you like rails? My dogs can and will do both there trained for both.as afar as consistancy I guess its because of the ground being dug up from the dogs, but in the end only the stronger dog comes to the end.

I will pull on rails or rubber tire. If were pulling on rubber tire i would rather pull on concrete and carpet vs. dirt. But if that's all you got then let's pull!

How about a King of the Dirt pull?

That has an interesting ring to it. I know I could do one and probably talk the Hosfelts into it also.
But how many people would show up?

Greg I understand the rails will pull more, You ought to come out to the house one weekend and give it a shot. I've been to a few dirt pulls and the big dogs done good ..pulled a little over 5000. But have not seen it yet on my dirt track. Just a thought.

Depends on the setup

Ray,
I broke in on rails and been a fan of it ever since...pulled on everything from dead level to near 6" incline...short,shaggy carpet to berber...pulled with casters tightened all the way down to where they would not hardly even roll and then again pulled when they free wheeled with ease on a dead level track...I prefer about 10-12 rounds of pulling where endurance as well as strength plays a role...then you really find out who's working there dogs for stamina as well as strength.

Some of the problems I've seen with wheels is inconsistency...some like smaller wheels some prefer 18"...some run a lot of air in the tires and some are so low they flat spot...then the ground...I've seen some nice manicured areas with deep, loose dirt in the middle, seen some carpet thrown down over dirt areas and it looked like the baja 1000,pulled on carpet on concrete and I'll have to say if I had my preference on wheels it would be carpet and concrete for me...pulled in 2005 in McComb,MS on wheels and had 3 dogs all pull over 4700 lbs...then pulled at UKC Nationals a few years ago and the dogs struggled to pull 2000 lbs...that particular pull pretty much did me in as far as pulling on wheels...it was a nightmare!

Hey Ray...how bout this...what about a Friday night pull under the lights on rails...then Saturday have a AM pull on dirt and then a PM pull on rails again...tally up the totals and do a combined average finish for each class to determine the Combined Kings of Dirt & Rails! How does this sound??

Sorry, but its a NO GO,
well for April that is, but we do want to host one this year.
I just need to get more support, The purpose of wanting to host one is to get money to buy a track. So we can host shows in Texas.
Thanks and I will keep you all posted.
