Let's not give up the fight...

PIRACY FACTS

• Piracy at this scale is badly damaging sales of legitimate music, and the victims are hundreds of thousands of people directly or indirectly employed by the music industry, and governments who lose millions in tax revenues every year. Local artists also lose out as piracy undermines investments in development of talents.

• Pirates are people often members of organized criminal gangs in all kinds of criminal activities aside from piracy---ranging from fraud, and drug trafficking, and prostitution.

• Pirates add no value to creative industries. They illegally copy and sell only the most popular acts---international stars and local icons. They leave the legitimate record business do all the marketing and take all the risks. Pirates pay nothing back to society.

• Piracy sucks the livelihood of a local culture. Talented artists from around the world cannot get recording contracts and have to make a living from touring, or move to other places at a loss to their home country.

• 1 in 3 discs worldwide are pirate products. (omg! Pano na lang sa pilipinas?!) 2 in 5 cassettes are pirate products. Pirate product today accounts for 40% in the context of shrinking legitimate market.

• Piracy takes away jobs, robs the economy, and gives nothing back to society.

• Piracy discourages foreign investments, having no adequate intellectual property protection.
