As per the previous post - a Google search for Petroleum Engineering Courses is a good way to start finding further informaiton. A bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering can also can get you into a Petroleum Engineering role. Countries closest to PNG that offer courses include - Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, amongst others. In Australia notable universities that offer Chemical/ Petroleum Engineering include: University of Sydeny, Melbourne University, Curtin University, The University of Queensland, The University of Adelaide, The University of Newcastle etc..

In Austrlaia it is typically a 4 year full time undergraduate course. Coming from PNG you will also need to do a couple of foundation courses (up to an additional year) to be on the same page as Australian students. Similar requirements would apply in other countries.

You need to be academically strong in mathematics, chemistry and/or physics which is a pre-requisite for these courses. You need to be able to work constructively in a team with people - the ability for team work and good communication skills is essential. You need to have a strong work ethic, and a willingness and ability to work hard and learn quickly.

Subject to the respective university academic rules - you can only fail up to 3 subjects before the school of engineering disqualify your engineering degree, in which case you aim to graduate with a lessor qualification, or use existing subjects towards a degree in another faculty.

Engineering is a great field to get into - it gives you great analytical, problem solving and management skills which you can apply in any work place, or career which you choose to persue. Graduates in this field are highly sought after by employees.

Good luck!

Cheers, Anon
