Just saw this on Steel navy

HMAS Warramunga engages Ex-USS New Orleans

Ex-USS New Orleans served in the United States Navy between 1968 and 1997. The ship was used for high end multi-national target practice during Exercise RIMPAC 2010, being fired upon by Harpoon missiles, laser guided bombs and finally a barrage of naval gun fire from eight ships.

well i guess shouldnt be too hard to hit... wonder if next time we might use some fishing vessels as live fire targets ...but i suppose a LGB from an F/A-18 or a 5in shell on a tiny wooden illegal fishing boat might seem excessive ..but still good practice for tight in shots

What surprises me is they have already expended one of the Tarawas's in 2006 ...

"The New Orleans is one of the bigger ships sunk during the biennial RIMPAC exercises. In 2006, the 833-foot Belleau Wood, also an amphibious ship, was sunk 50 miles northwest of Oahu."
