The person waiting out side the door is Donato the painter. He wants to see Paulina. She said he had to leave but she does want to meet with him to tell him something that she has told no one else ever!
The nurse and the doctor discuss Carlitos’ refusal to eat. The doctor says he is a nut case and needs a psych eval since his whole family is obviously messed up.
Paulina confronts Willy about the scene yesterday outside the fabrica. She insists that he break off his pursuit of Viviana. She explains that Leandro is interested in this girl – and Willy retorts well she interests me. I know Paulina it is because you have your eye on him. SMACK!!! Paulina gives him a good one across the kisser.
Meanwhile, Estephania is talking to her secretary Estella on the phone. Estella fills her in on all the details of the fight.
Paulina promises Willy that he will have to suffer the consequences of his actions. Willy: Yeah, what consequences, he taunts. P: You will be fired. W: And Leandro?
P: Both of you.
In LAP’s bedroom they discuss Estephania – her mental state (borderline) and that she will refuse to change in order to save what is left of her marriage.
A few minutes later, while both are in their bedroom Willy practically begs Estephania to change – he calls her old fashioned and fastidious (probably meaning tenacious in clinging to her crazy ideas) She hauls off and SMACKs him on. Second big SMACK in the day!
The scene moves to the Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana. Luciano and an unnamed woman are watching a GREYHOUND race. He mutters to himself that he is running out of money and had better soon be visiting La Usurpadora.
Back at the Brachos’ Paulina has received a phone call from the nurse about Carlitos’ continued refusal to eat. Paulina tells her that she will come to the hospital. When she gets there, she and CD discuss the problems Carlitos is having. CD is frustrated with Carlitos’ behavior – his refusal to eat and his refusal to use the crutches. That he had another attack. Paulina tells CD to go home, take a bath, rest, and I will stay here and be like his own mother to him. CD leaves. As soon as he does, Paulina starts scolding Carlitos for his behavior. When he starts to cry she comforts him and tells him that she loves him but that he must begin to cooperate in his recovery.
At the apartment of Dońa Abigail, the older woman lays into Viviana with Leandro right there in the room. She tells her that it is disgraceful and shameful that she would get involved with a married man, especially the husband of on of her company’s owners. She tells her that rich men like him never will marry a poor girl like her.
Paulina finally induces Carlitos to eat a piece of toast and jam.
Somewhere at a dude ranch in Texas, Douglas Maldonado, now sans beard, is musing about Paulina. He credits her with his improved health and decides to write her a letter telling her all this.
Paulina finally induces Carlitos to use the crutches. Soon he is flying about the room on them.
Willy is in CDs office. CD asks, did Paulina talk to you. Willy lies, says no. Leandro comes in with the payroll checks. He tells CD that the amount of the paycheck for Viviana is more than it should be. Willy tries to look invisible. He only succeeds in getting a dumb smirk on his face. CD shoves the paperwork at him and tells him to cut another check for her and make it right this time. About that time Gema comes in and offers herself as a Public Relations person. She wants to work there, and is draping herself all over him. He starts to kiss her then stops himself. This is treason, he declares.
Douglas Maldonado, at the dude ranch sits down at a green patio table and starts to think again about Paulina. He thinks she is a strange and mysterious woman, maybe a twin sister of the one he met before. So he starts to write a letter…thinking that the one he wants is Paulina not the first one (Paola)
Rodrigo calls his wife who is awaiting his call. She wants to know when he is returning. He says he is not and that he will not allow any more discussion of THAT woman. The topic changes to his health. He is not well (Looks pretty tan and healthy to me)
Paulina, excited calls the house to share the good news about the walking and eating. Estephania overhears and starts into her botching. Fidelina tells here that she should take everyone’s advice and get her act together.
CD arrives at the hospital where Paulina says she has a surprise. Did he eat, CD asks. No – better than that – he used the crutches. Tomorrow he will return home!!!
They leave Carlitos and go to the cafeteria for coffee. He fills her in on the situation with Estephania refusing to work and Willy trying to pad the payroll. Paulina insists that they both must work hard to straighten up and contribute or they leave the house. They need to be taught a lesson. He tells her about Gema. Paulina thinks that the PR job is a good idea since Gema is so worldly. CD asks Paulina if she is planning to leave him. She says that if it were up to here it would be forever. He asks her to recall the vows they made till death do us part. She says she doesn’t want anyone but him, and forever till death separates us.
Next morning:
Estephania is praying, and wondering if she can try to change.
A fed ex packet arrives for Paulina.
Lizette and Carlitos play in the yard; Lizette tries to use the crutches, which are way too long for her.
Upstairs, CD awakens Paulina with a kiss. When she does not respond to his attention he says okay that is enough. You are going to see a doctor, this week. He leaves.
Lalita delivers the letter from Douglas, which she reads and smiles. (too long to include entire thing here)
Later at the fabrica, CD is on the phone, finishing up a call as Paulina enters. He looks up at her and informs her that that was her bank. Apparently someone cashed a check for 2 million pesos!!!!!!
