Corelli was gifted by nature with tons of voice which he emitted without tecnique. With intelligence, persistence and schooling by no other than the great veteran tenor Lauri-Volpi, Corelli reconstructed a technique and voice. His laudable commitment as an artist was crowned overall by great success. His records bear witness to his miraculous vocal restoration as in the arias "Ah si ben mio" and "Di quella pira" you have listened to. His fraseggio in both arias is an attempt to "cantar sul fiato" which was Lauri-Volpi's essential credo.
If you have never heard Lauri-Volpi sing you have not lived yet, dear Pawel. Stay tuned from mid October on, when we launch an article which features Lauri-Volpi's debut as Manrico way back in 1927 at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires. The opera for October also features the great Roman tenor in a recording of Trovatore in 1951. Both articles are supported by mp3 sound files strictly for the purpose of illustrating points we make in the articles. You will hear Lauri-Volpi sing, hopefully to your pleasure and enjoyment.
