Frank, I thought you might be interested in this about Connor and Murphy's tattoos:

Connor and Murphy both have a Virgin Mary on the side of their necks, a large Celtic cross on one forearm, and Murphy has AEQUITAS written on one trigger finger, while Connor has VERITAS. Aequitas means Justice - Veritas means truth.

Here is an image of their tattoos:

aequitas can be translated uniformity, but it is also translated as equity, or justice.

"aequitas (equitas) : justice, fairness, uniformity, equity"

veritas

Pff, i am sure that none of u know a little bit of mythology.

Here is the Aequitas, and Veritas

Veritas, ("truth") is the Roman goddess of truth. She is a daughter of Saturn.

Aequitas, The Roman god of fair dealing.

Understood??

That depends on which dictionary you are using, and how you use the word and its root. It can be translated either way, however, justice is the correct translation.

Look, I realize there are a lot of want-to-be scholars out there, and you idiots all think you're so much damn smarter than the other guy. Pay attention, if you will, to someone who probably has a higher IQ and ten years of education more than any of you: aequitas has one meaning, because "aequitas" means "aequitas." It is a Latin word -- not English -- and translation almost always distorts definitions. Equality, justice, fairness...they're all the SAME DAMN THING. There are simply fewer words in most languages than there are in English. And quit bitching at each other. I ran across this forum by accident, and all I can find are people ripping into each other for the sake of a difference of opinion that no one seems to be able to back up with more than a f-ing WEBSITE as a reference. Shut up, go to college, and stop whining.

You are sooooo intelligent. Wow. What good advice. "get a college education" and the ever popular "my iq is so much higher than yours"............If you couldn't tell the sarcasm so far, don't bother. Being a college educated person, I'm sure you know the IQ test is a bit of a crap shoot, and that your criticizing of others' attempts to answer this question is as bitchy as anyone else's. Calling them "idiots" just proves your superiority. Right? Icame here to find an answer to a simple question, and instead found your jack-assedness. I'm happy to know the answer, but disapointed to know that someone as smart as you is such a ravenous dick face cokmaster.

And shepards we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from thy hand,
Our feet may swifty carry out thy commands,
So we shall flow a river forth to thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.

If your going to be a translator then get it right, it's Filii if you have doubts then go to the actual movie site for boondocks and the director has a post of the proper spelling. Just like spanish, Latin also has diffrent ways of spelling the same word. It matters in what context you are using it. Also there is diffrent forms of lating aswell, there old style and new style latin. Just a heads up next time you want to correct someone.

Latin is an inflected language, meaning that direct objects, indirect objects, subjects, predicate adjectives, prepositions, etc all take different case endings. In the example of "filius", the phrase is "in the name OF the father, OF the son" meaning that the noun used will show possession and is therefore in the genitive case. For father/patris, a third declension noun, "OF the father" is "patris"; for filius, a second declension noun, "OF the son" is filii (or fili, both ways are correct these days).

You know, I really liked this movie... but seeing people get all huffy over a simple matter of grammar strikes me as puerile. And yeah, that's Latin too.

Murphy does not have a butterfly tatooed on his chest....he has his real name, Norman, because it is a real tatoo.
So is the one on the underise of his arm, and the one on his back.
Aequitas and the Virgin Mary are fake.

Yes, Il Duce tattoo IS of a butterfly....watch the dvd with Billy Connolly's commentary on (special edition only) and he mentions it. It is a butterfly- he says so.

destroy that witch is evil so the good may florish.

Technically Aequitas is cannon law for "justice with equity" having replaced "misericordia" as cannon law in the late 1100's/early 1200's. Equitas is justice. Just thought I would shed some light

I thought about this too...I figured I shouldn't get the exact tattoos that they have. However, I like the idea of thier tatts. Being a police officer, I get to fire a gun a lot, and thought it would be cool to have a tatt on my trigger fingers. I'm thinking about getting "Judicium, and Carnificina". I don't really care what everyone else on here has to say, 'cause you're all fucking lame to be arguing shit like this....A tatt is a tatt. It doesn't matter where it comes from. I enjoy seeing tatts of movies on people, it's always a good conversation starter. I have Iron Maiden tatts on me 'cause I like their album art, and I'm a big fan. It's the same idea as movie tattos. Does that make me lame? No, I didn't think so. Deal with it.

you only have one trigger finger. Besides that, it would not be cool for an officer to have finger tattoos. Quite unprofessional isn't it?
