Hi, when i first heard of this movie a friend told me that it was pretty cool so i went home and downloaded it. Pertty cool? this is the coolest movie i have ever seen. So i went out and bought it. I was watching the dvd and noticed that there are some small diferences in some parts. Like the version i downloaded in the scene where rocco shoots up the cafe or whatever the downloaded version seems to be a lot more graphic.
I was just wondering if there are like 2 versions or whats the deal.

yes, actually I think that there are two versions, I got the DVD in Canada and it's missing lots of extra stuff, and I am sure it was specially edited for north America and Europe, in Europe usually they can show film the way it was made, but in north America it have to be more fine for the more sensitive audience sucks I know.

Because watching violent movies causes the viewer to be violent. Exposure to violence desensitizes that person to the effects of violence. Plain and simple.

Are you being scartastic? The problem is when the kids are not taught the difference butween reality and a fucking movie that this could be a problem. I watch shit loads of violent movies and tv shows and play shit loads of violent games and i am not a violent person. Me and my friends my hit each other some but that's all in good fun and it's never excessive. I understand that movies are movies. Maybe I have become desensitized to movie violence but thats fake. In the real world I am sure as hell not desensitized to violence. It is only when idiots can't tell the difference between a fucking movie and the real world that we have a problem. Plain and simple.

Hey Al,
I have no idea why it is like that, but I am from Europe and the movies there are different, not every single one has an happy ending and are more from real life then the Hollywood crap, and I think that’s why there are two versions of some movies, in Europe they don’t have to have happy ending and in North America they do, I have seen lots of movies that had alternative endings and some were more explicit in Europe, example “Eyes wide shut” in Europe it’s more a porn flick then here in N.America, in the Europe version, people actually are having sex there and you can see them, the north America version had digitally re-done these scenes and when people had sex in a movie there was an on-watcher kind of covering what they were doing, so you couldn’t really see what exactly they were doing.
I have no idea why it is like that but the fact is that’s what the market here become, somebody have to decide for us what are we able to take and what not, silly really….
M.

I'm not being sarcastic. But I guess I was short-changing the issue a bit. You are correct that it is not the direct exposure to violence, but that the viewer must be able to discern the difference between on-screen violence and real-life. Many children and adolescents are not taught this difference (especially in America). They are just plopped down in front of the TV for hours with no supervision or explanation. As this person matures without the proper interaction, the lines between reality and fantasy become blurred resulting in the person turning to violence as a normal way of life.

Unfortunately these are the facts, and Boondock Saints got caught up in the whirlwind of the aftermath of the Columbine incident. Ironically, these Columbine kids came from affluent households, but they were not nurtured with the proper attention from their parents and they turned out bad.

The Basketball Diaries is another example. The Paducah Kentucky school murders were committed by Michael Carneal who admitted that he was inspired to his violent actions by watching The Basketball Diaries. More than likely he, throughout his childhood, was not subjected to enough parental/adult intervention/interaction during his formative years that would have helped him in his assimilation between reality and fantasy. I would bet that this kid watched violent movies over and over and over and over to the point of desensitization and saturation,

This is why many people point to violent movies as the cause of real violence. They want to remove the movies rather than offering the movies with proper interaction/supervision, etc. They feel it's easier to just ban these types of movies, rather than being a proper parent.

I think you got it right on. "They feel it's easier to just ban these types of movies, rather than being a proper parent." This is the sad truth. Its even sader cause its not that hard to even show a little involvment. If you have kids you should take the time to teach them even the most basic things but i guess that the parents are just too busy for that, and its really sad.
