Hiya All!

I went to the Lizotte's gig last night and oh my god it was amazing.
It is this little restaurant that seats only 115 people, a very unassuming sort of place. But despite the size, the atmosphere of the place and the great people work there won me over in seconds. The food was to die for, if anyone is going to the weekend shows, I highly recommend the figs, the roast chicken or the sirloin steak and the crepes, absolutely mouth watering food. We were told that Mahalia would be on at 8;30 and then Jimmy at 9:30. Brian Lizotte wandered around mingling with everyone all night, making sure everyone was happy. A very nice man to talk to. Mahalia came out at just after 8:45 and she was amazing. It was just Mahalia, Ben Rodgers on guitar and Elly-May doing backing vocals. Mahalia started off with How strong is a woman, which is one of my fave songs of hers. Ben helped her sing You are my sunshine, which was just awesome. She finished up with Proud Mary, which I managed to record and I will upload on here soon.
About 15 minutes after Mahalia finished up, Jimmy came out and the place went wild!! It was awesome, just amazing. He was telling us how he has been sick all week and has been in bed, just to amke sure he was ok for last night. You would never have known if he didn't tell us, he was as awesome as always. He started off the night with A long way to go, which just rocked, and it just got better from there. It was so good to see him sing a few less known tunes, as well as some of the old staples.
A treat for the night was a special guest, ops 2 special guests who came on stage to sing with Jimmy. Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson came out to sing When 2 hearts Collide, and as you can imagine the crowd went ballistic. Shane stuck around to sing Khe Sanh with Jimmy, which was so cool. Listening to Ressurrection Shuffle (one of my fave songs) was so cool to hear played acoustic, Jimmy still rocked it out, lol happy.gif.
For the last song of the night Jimmy brought it down a bit and sung Love me Tender, which I must say he sings the best version of, that was amazing.
I think I can remember most of the set list, if I have left any out and anyone that was there last could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Long way to go
Flame trees
My sweetest friend
Your shadow
Khe Sanh
Can't make love without a soul
No second prize
Hound Dog
Love me tender
Resurrection Shuffle
Out in the blue
Change of heart
I can't tell you why
Bartender
I'm surprised
I'm still on your side
When the war is over

To anyone going to the weekend shows I hope actually I know you will have a great time. I think someone said Linda was coming up for one. Linda I hope you have an awesome night, and have a safe trip.

Cheers

Nicky

Thanks for the review and photos Nicky, I wish Jimmy would do shows like that in Melbourne, maybe at Capers.

Hey Mikey
Yep it was an awesome night. I hope he does do some down in Melbourne for you, it is definitely one not to miss.
On the way to work i remembered one song jimmy did last night that I left off my set list. He sung Wichita Lineman as well. also I forgot to mention another player in jimmy's set was James Gillard on guitar, as well as Ben, Mahalia and Elly-May.
Cheers

My sweetest friend is the song of the child abuse ad on tv. Jimmy has done it for a a new compilation album for a benefit thingy, I can't remember what he said the cause was, but hopefully Mikey can help me with it, he should know hopefully.

Bartender is an old song that Jimmy used to play at warm ups, and in the tour bus when he was drunk lol happy.gif.

Cheers
