I first heard from retired newsman Frank Clynes back in 1999. Clynes was crusading to have the US gubmint retrieve the remains of Sgt Bill Genaust from the sealed cave on Iwo where it had been since February 1945 when he was KIA. Clynes also wanted Genaust awarded the Navy Cross he had been recommended for regarding his actions on Saipan. Despite his tireless efforts, Clynes met with resistence and was unsuccessful in his quest. Apparently now, however, for whatever reason, his efforts are bearing fruit.
