Mine is a 272 Huskie. A real power saw. I know that sharping has something to do with cutting with the grain but I could never figure it out.
Big saw, sharp chain, faster cutting.

Hi Steve,
You just gotta stick your bar in there and pull the trigger. We use 3/8th LP chain on a MS460 (pretty big saw) and it does the trick. Watch some of the other guys at the Carving Fest, you will pick up lots of tricks.

Right now I'm doing a carving in a cemetery of a 20' tall cross; it's being done in a dead white oak tree and the main upright will be 18" wide by 14" deep and of course 20' tall. I started with a 3/8" ripping chain available from Stihl that went pretty well; then for the heck of it I put on my 3/8" carbide tipped Carbi-chain made mainly for fireman use. That also went pretty well but still had a long way to go; so I threw on a 3/8" full chisel Stihl chain; this is all on my 046 Stihl with 36" bar. First I put the chain on the grinder to ensure all cutters were alike; sharpened them to Stihl specs then took a 7/32' file and "dressed" them up a bit. Now it's hold on and eat some chips; making light work of the job. All vertical cuts!!!
