I carved a 36" pumkin hollowed it out and carved the face thru so I can put a light in it maybe a strobe I bought a fog machine and I'm going to carve some thing I can use it on . Maybe a bunch of head stone got any ideas I could do and incorperate the fog machine ?
How did you get the pumpkin hollowed out?
I tried to post a pic of a witch that I did years ago but it has a . in the title and won't come up. I did two witches and two casper ghosts and all four got stolen the same night at a home down in Savannah.
Oh well, shit happens.

In the past we have done many pumpkins of all sorts and styles. I thought it would be neat to hollow some for lights. The way I do them now is to carve the basic pumpkin, then I plunge cut the face features however you wish it to look; when done there I place the pumpkin upside down, measure how far you can plunge straight up from the bottom without coming out the top and use that to cut a square, octagon, or similar pattern from the bottom to near the top. Save the plunge cut directly behind the face for last, then when you make that cut all the pieces for the eyes, nose, and mouth fall out as you make the plunge. Then I set the pumpkin back upright, measure how far I can plunge in from the back side and actually cut out the square or octagon chunk that you cut from the bottom. I measure by just holding the bar above where I want to make the cut and eyeball it. The people get a kick out of it at a show since your last two cuts allowing the face parts to fall out and then the whole center of the pumpkin fall out makes everything fall into place quickly. You end up with a cut mark in the back of the pumpkin but if you cut carefully you will just have the heighth of the bar for a hole and sweep the bar back and forth just enought to release your center chunk. I usually don't even cut the top out, just make some superficial cuts to make it look as though the top should lift out. Usually get from $40 to $80 dollars for standard size pumpkins depending on where you are doing the show. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes to accomplish the whole pumpkin.
I had a log with a dody middle ,you know softspot so I plug cut all the way thru . I don't think it will matter because you'll never see the botom it sits on it . I cut a 18"diameter hole thru the center . Then I took another peice of log actualy a slab and cut it to fit the hole . I left out an important part the round hole is cut on a bevel. the top of the hole is 18 "and the bottom around 16" this is just reference sizes . I layed the slab on top cut to fit the top of the hole then I insert the bar and cut the bevel around the slab so it fits nicely I say a slab but it was more like a log cut in half that way I had plenty of log to cut a stem on top .I hollow the inside out quite a bit .Then I cut all the grooves and shape it like a pumkin after the top and all the pumkin was shaped. I plung cut the face in it . I burned and sand blasted put linseed oil and turpentine on it and will paint tomorrow . The sand blaster brings out the grain and keeps you from having to do all that sanding . I'll be taking pictures soon
I'll be trying some of those next week. We will be getting fresh cut Red Oak to the best of my knowledge and boy, does that stuff check bad, I guess we will have cracked pumpkins in a few days.
We have a sand blaster on our wish list but I guess we're doing something wrong, Santa never brings us stuff like that.
Gotta go and try to keep the Stihls running.

shouldn't check to bad if you cut the center out .And spray it with Lin seed oil and turpentine . Stinks thou .I painted my pumpkin orande today and the stem green looks good it's a big one even with the center hoolowed out it's still heavy. I put it up on a stump .
I bore though the mouth of my pumpkins to make the center easyer to remove and do a face on both sides so that they are two faced. You can put a light in and the set it in the window and everyone can see it inside the house and out.
I sold my pumpkin for 200.$ yesterday . not bad for a log that had a rotten middle .Of course I didn't ned the middle for a pumpkin I tried to put a picture of it on the post it must be to big a file
