Ok here is our first paying stump job. I said I would do a step by step of it so here goes.
The pics I'm putting up now are from our camera, The owner had 60+ pics and we did not even have the bear started. but that will come later.
I have to tell you that this tree is water oak, it had died and the guy ask what could be done with it. I seen a large eagle on top and this guy wanted also a bear that held a big flag.

After getting down to where we had some good wood, we decided to just do the bear holding the big flag.

While we were doing this I keep looking at what we had left and I just new we could get him a eagle in there some where. This guy we found out had his heart set on a eagle also. I was going to do a small one as a deep relief looking over a water fall and had it started, when the guy said that he wanted the white head and tail feathers to show really big. Well that put a stop to what I had in mind. Lady Hawk came up with putting the eagle on the bottom but don't split the wings, just leave them as one to hole up the bear so we got started and the wings came out good.

This is where we stopped for the first day.
Will have more tomorrow. LW

Looking good

August 1 2004, 9:39 AM

Hi Ya'll,
It's a shame that the top was rotten as that would have made one fine Eagle but I'm sure you two will pull it off and come up with a great yard piece.
Just wondering how you keep so dry in this 115* heat index stuff that we have been having.
Good luck on the piece and we are looking forward to all the step by step pics.
later
