Hi all, first off I'm new to the board and new to carving. I have always been into some sort of art drawing, painting and airbrushing. Always loved working with wood and even gave it a shot a while back but when the carving cracked in two before it was finnished I became real frustrated.
The past while I have had plenty of time on my hands because my wife became ill and now requires me to tend to her and had to give up my job to do so. My interests in chainsaw art started to fire up again! I decided since we had a yard full of pines cut down last year when we built our house I'd give it a shot. Probably did what a lot of new commers do .... picked up a chainsaw and started to cut me a bear! Well I ended up with "super pig" !!! lol . So I took a step back and started sketching up an idea and then carved it out of a 3 inch x 7 inch pine log ( minni test run ).
A pic of my finnished carving is below and I would love to hear ALL including what could be improved. I'd like to be able to sell these in full and minni versions some day so that I am still doing something productive. But even if I wasn't able to I think I'm now hooked for good and will keep on carving anyway. The carving is only 7 inches tall so I didn't put detail in the eyes I'd like to do on a larger one. The finnish was burnt and then wire brushed. I loved the real effect the soot gave for a fur like finnish and would like any tips on how not to loose that when applying a sealer? I sprayed the sealer on so that brushing wouldn't smudge but it still affected it. Once the sealer was applied it made a more matted finnish vs the velvet unfinnished soot look had.
