miilquetoast@hotmail.com. THis site seems virtually dead, I check it a lot, but the only people I see posting is mostly my friend Donn Winner, but no one responds. I try to raise attention here, but it never works.

For what my answer is worth because I'm just getting started myself.

I needed a good all around saw for firewood, wanted one I could carve with, limited to only having one saw. Mine is a Stihl 250. I just bought the carving bar, chain and sprocket and it takes but minute to change the sprockets over. So there you have it. I have talked to other carvers and even allot of the ones using multiple saws stick with the 250's. Light but powerful.

I was recently told by a Husky/Stihl dealer to stay away from Huskies because since they have moved into the mass market selling of saws (Lowe's, Home Depot) they have cheapened the saws greatly. They are still good if you go into industrial models but I'm not sure how small those saws go to.

When I figured out what saw I wanted I looked at charts that showed horsepower and saw weight. This way I could see what saw was lightest but still had the power. If you go by way of Stihl stay away from the MS170 & MS180, they have different carburetors on them that can not handle the throttling that is done while carving.

The Husqvarna saws still cut circles around anything else. They're still made in the same factory with industry leading technology. Stihl's smaller saws are now built in CHINA, with inferior parts and technology, ask him about that. In my opinion you'll not find a better saw than Husqvarna. Your dealer must have had a few Stihl's come off floor plan and needed to move them. I'll take a Husqvarna any day over any other saw. Just my .02
