  • a big black hole in the TV schedule

    • Posted Sep 12, 2005 1:44 AM

I was heartbroken when I heard that "American Dreams" Had beed canceled. I suppose it just shows how uninterested the network is, in the type of programming that makes middle aged women RUSH home from the grocery store on Sunday afternoons. (9 oclock would have been better)

Everything was so REAL. I grew up in Levittown... I have NO doubt that the ranch style house JJ and Beth were looking into was in Levittown. In fact, Jack would eventually open a store in Levittown just across from Pomeroys. Jack Pryor may have been Gerry Plavin.

Pomeroys is gone now, plowed into a concrete abyss. Black corded telephones and those oh so special princesses that the girls who's dad's owned businesses had in their rooms are in boxxes in the attic.

I was somewhat like Roxanne. Basically on my own at a very young age. I dated musicians that I met at "the celler" in the same shopping center as Pomeroys. Where do you suppose Beth worked? The Main Point? Maybe the Second Fret? When Meg kissed her longhaired rebel with the snowflakes falling all around on her eyelashes and peacoat. I felt that kiss. I smelled the live Christmas trees being sold on the corner...and I lost friends in VietNam.

I remember mailing Tastycakes, a taste of home that never got stale, and waiting MONTHS for a retuen letter. There was no internet, no cell phones, not even landlines. And the Telegraphs? Well nobody wanted to get that telegraph. We had to just pray that our boys were still alive.

ALL of the actors on this show were just phenominal. And we had the added treat of catching a glimpse of Robbie Benson on a few shows too!

I will miss you all, but mostly Roxanne, cause you see hon, I WAS YOU. So don't worry..you will be ok... Well sorta.

Good bye old friends, thanks for touching my heart.
