We went from Ascuncion by launch to Clorinda, Argentina, and from there we
biked to Parque Pilcomayo en Formosa. This parque is actually really nice,
little visited, with lots of interesting plants and animals. Unfortunately the
most dangerous species of the area with its desire for blood kept us from
seeing to much. In fact, we were hiding in our tent and didn't even cook,
instead
we ate our last cookies and were listening intensively to the sounds of
nature - ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss - thats how the moskitos make...
Later on, we went on Ruta 81 through Formosa. In a little village we had to
wait two days because it was raining and the road just a big mess of mudd and
guess what: we were on TV again! This time just the local district channel
but nevertheless: its the next step up to Hollywood! Here we also got to know
that this f.... wanna-be-cowboy G.W. Bush has finally sent his troops to the
destroying and killing crusade. It was to be expected but still it just a
catastrophe in all senses and for the first time in my life I am proud to be a
German since our country has at least the guts to officially say NO to this
bullshit. The war has actually some personal bad effects for us since American
Airlines, where we booked our tickets, is financially ruined now and we are
not sure if our return flight will be possible as we expected...

But anyway, though there is the war, we are still enjoying our trip, going
on and on and getting steal limbs.
The Ruta 81 is partly (300 km) dirt road and on the first day riding this
part we had a real bad rain so we got stuck in the mud and looked like pigs. We
found a place to spend the night at the police station of the next village
and had much fun with the policemen who actually don't have much more to do
than boil water for their mate.
But the rest of the road was o.k. as was the weather so we got to the
provinces Salta and Jujuy quite fast. In Jujuy we encountered a lot of street
blockades by picaderos but we didn 't have to pay a centavo, we even got offered
drinks and the whole bunch sang for Clemens Happy Birthday. We were for two
days at a little thermal resort in Jujuy, a real treasure, we liked it very
much. The last two days we took a secondary road to S.S. de Jujuy which lead us
through a dreamlike landscape of yungas and mountain chains to the province
capital. It is wonderful to be in the mountains again after all this flatland,
a little bit like coming home....
We are really looking forward to the trip to the Bolivian Altiplano (on Ruta
9 passing Humahuaca, La Quiaca) and then seeing this amazing country though
that means saying goodbye to Argentina whom we are quite in love with after
all this wonderful time.

We send lots of hugs and kisses to you all - till soon from Bolivia!

Los dos locos de asfalto
Katharina & Clemens
