How can I access HTTPS sites using a proxy

I have setup my Internet Explorer to work though an open Proxy and I can access HTTP sites. BUT the moment I try to access HTTPS sites (eg: https//login.yahoo.com) I get the error "HTTP 405 - Resource not allowed"

Do I need a proxy.pac file , and if yes what do I need to put in the file
