| Nikita and Michael both turned to face a cripple male bent over his anvil that looked old and fragile, ugly and walking with the assistance of a walking stick. At times he appeared weak and spoke in thundering yet emasculate tones and although neither Michael nor Nikita had ever seen him before, they both instantly knew who he was as he introduced himself, “Yes, yes… I am Hephaestus, the god of fire, son of Zeus and Hera. You’ll see how much we have in common Nikita. Parents – aha, you have Paul and Roberta, I… well when my mother saw at my birth that I was lame and ugly she threw me from Mount Olympus to the sea and I fell for a whole day before landing in the waters. And my father Zeus did not even contribute his seed to my conception. But I digress, later the Romans knew me as Vulcan, also their god of fire.”
Nikita cleared her throat and spoke with great apprehension, “Yes I know who you are. You entrapped your mother in a magic throne you built, I remember you from my Greek history books.” Hephaestus smiled and Michael crossed his arms, with realization on her voice Nikita said as an after thought, “You received the beautiful Aphrodite as your bride.”
“Michael” the god spoke to the similarly dressed man, they both wore kilts that in Michael’s case, showcased his wonderfully muscular calves, “You stand there so smug, just because I split Zeus head with an axe, just like the legend said Michael… don’t be repulsed by me… no one is ever repulsed by you Michael, isn’t that right?”
“What do you want from us?” Michael asked, his strong arm going around his wife’s waist with care in a show of protection.
The god sat on the bed and pointed for Michael and Nikita to do the same in plush pillows that made the god look impressive and important in front of the lower seated pair. “You do not know this, how could you… but you’ve been here before, many times, it is time to stop the cycle and it is time for you particularly Michael, to right some wrongs.”
Michael, a man always in control went to speak but Nikita interrupted confused, “I don’t understand, we have never been here before… you are a nut who thinks you are a god…”
Before Nikita could continue with her mocking words Hephaestus rose, he pointed a long crooked finger to the chaise and it went up in flames. From the smoky debris a clear picture arose, like the screen in a movie theatre. The couple watched the image of a woman who looked extraordinarily like Nikita lying in a bed writhing in the pleasure her lover delivered. Laying between her legs lapping at the gold center of her existence the man partook of the woman’s pleasure, then looking up as a net thrown by Hephaestus covered them, he returned to his charge while the net held the lovers immobile and still in the throngs of their passion. The naked man was the war god Ares, who looked incredibly like Michael and Hephaestus, looking much the same as he did on the present day, dragged the lovers still wrapped in each other’s embrace to the Olympian gods. In the court Hephaestus told his story and showed the Olympian gods the naked lovers and asked for equitable retribution, instead the gods laughed and allowed the couple to go free and do as they may.
Michael and Nikita sat in silence watching the erotic images that somehow moved them.
