Evening hair care routine

October 21 2002, 8:10 PM

October 20 2002 at 11:28 AM

I always do a preshampoo treatment using EVOO and/or St Ives Miracle Mudd.
I shampoo then condition,
wrap a towel around my hair to absorb some of the water,
do my nightly skin beauty routine,
take my hair down and apply monoi oil on my length from my ears to my ends,
use a detangler mixture(Equess Avocaco Mist, Ion Reconstruction Treatment, Mega Tek, and water),
then a few mists of Back to Basics detangler to add shine, I also apply some Mega Tek to my scalp.
and finally detangle with a Goody widetooth comb.
I then wrap it back in my towel for an hour or two.
I take my hair down, coil it in a bun, then wrap a scrunchi around to secure.
During the cold months, when I want my hair to be drier in the moring I will use my blow dryer on low for a few seconds with my head uside down and concentrate on my scalp, then do my hair routine.
In the moring, I take my hair down, do a scalp massage with a oval shampoo brush and apply a little extra monoi just to the ends, use my detangler mixture, then comb. I began applying Mega Tek on my length for added protection because it just got cold here.
I very rarely bush in the moring. When I brush it's in the evening and before I do my preshampoo treatment.

I have thick heavy hair and it does take a while to dry. I have posted that I have been wearing a damp bun to work so it doesn't really have to be that dry in the morining.

I hope this helps

My hair routine

No score for this post
December 1 2002, 1:11 PM

Every evening before bed I spritz my hair with lavender water and apply Phyto 7 to the ends of my hair.

I CWC once a week and do a conditioner only wash once a week. When following the CWC routine I wash with diluted shampoo(either diluted with distilled water or aloe vera juice).

I deep condition my hair once a week in the winter but only once a month in the warmer weather.

I let my hair dry natural in a bun. I wear my hair up during the day in either a bun or a frenchbraid. I wear my hair loose when going out at night.

I have my hair trimmed every 6 months(usually 1" to 2") straight blunt cut. I check for splits every week and cut any that I see.

Products used:
Aveda Curessence S&C
Milky Waves S&C
AO Sea Buckthorn Cream Rinse
AO GPB
Phyto 7
LHL Meadowfoam Organic Deep Treatment
Sauve Naturals Aloe Vera Conditioner-use on Cond. only days
Kiehl's Intensive Repair Pak

I change products alot but I'm having success with the above products.

LADY GODIVA'S ROUTINE

Very fine, oily, stick-straight, calf-length, brunette hair
October 12 2002 at 8:21 AM Lady Godiva (Login 1078LadyGodiva)

1a, F, i (although the final category could be argued - I guess it's based solely on appearance, not amount?) Anyhow, I think those designations would be where my hair would fall. My hair tangles unbelievably, a trait common to fine hair. The products I use:

Nature's Gate Original Herbal Hair Shampoo (green) and Conditioner (murky brown), plus Giovanni's Leave-in Conditioner. Only occasionally do I use all three products, meaning only when I actually wash my entire head of hair, which is usually about once every other week. Usually I do scalp washes, so use only the shampoo. I do scalp washes about twice a week, including the periodic entire wash. I always air-dry.

I have a whole-house water conditioner, so do not do vinegar rinses. When my hair is dry, I often apply a bit of jojoba oil to just the length, applying it first to my palms, and then spreading it below my shoulder area, focusing most on the ends.

During the day, my hair is usually in an updo, either an Infinity Bun (like the Figure 8, but sideways), or my updo invention based on the French twist, and which I call my wrapped French twist. It is featured at TLHS on the Hair Care/Styles page in step-by-step photos. I wear my hair down only for special events. Sometimes a friend will braid my hair, which is fun.

At night, my hair usually is still up. At this length, braids cause more tangles for me, so if my hair is not in an updo, it's detangled and left loose to hang off the bedside onto a sheer curtain that is tucked under my bottom bedsheet, so my hair doesn't drag on the floor.

For tools, I use only combs, not brushes, which I find cause more tangles than they remove, as well as breakage. When making my updos, I use wooden hair sticks or leather/wood stick barrettes, depending on my updo. For braids, I use those fabric-wrapped, no-metal ponytail bands.

When wearing fluffy, chunky sweaters or wool coats, I always wear my hair up, as these also cause tangles. I even avoid button-down shirts with open collars, which tend to increase tangles at the nape, so I wear my hair up at those times, too.

I never sit on my hair, preferring to drape it under my left arm, then over my lap and onto my right thigh when seated.

That's about all I can think of right now! Good luck!

Jennifer Eve

WISHING 4'S ROUTINE

No score for this post
December 5 2002, 9:26 PM

Wishing4's Routine (3bMi)
July 25 2002 at 9:16 AM Wishing4 (Login Wishing4)

In May I started the Curly Girl (CG) routine based on the book by Lorraine Massey. Right now I think I have about 5 different conditioners. I like using White Rain because it is very thin and very inexpensive. It mixes wonderfully with brown sugar to do a scalp exfoliating wash. I also like Suave Professionals Humectant as a leave in. Recently I have also been trying Tresseme European diluted with aloe juice. Tresseme is a little too thick to use for "shampoo." I also bought Back to Basics Raspberry Almond, but I have yet to try it.

What I have been doing....
I shower every day and thus condition my hair everyday. I wet my hair down and load it up with conditioner. I either use the White Rain or Tresseme. Then I put my hair in a bun on top of my head and let it sort of soak while I wash, etc. Then I take my hair down, part it in the middle, and use a pick to comb the conditioner through my hair. I also massage my scalp some, too. About twice a week I may add extra conditioner to my scalp to wash it. One of those times I will use a mixture of brown sugar and conditioner (1 tablespoon of brown sugar and about 1 tablespoons of conditioner). After conditioning, I rinse....a lot.

I also use a diluted vinegar rinse about twice a week. I mix a tablespoon of applecider vinegar in a big glass (about 3 cups) of water. I pour it over my head and let it run through my hair a few seconds and then rinse.

After rinsing the conditioner and/or vinegar, I add a little of the Suave as a leave in and usually comb it through my hair. If I'm going to wear my hair curly I will scrunch the extra water out, flip my head, scrunch some more, then flip back over. After getting out of the shower, I scrunch the ends in the towel to stop the drips. I flip my head over, apply a nickle size amount of Funky Chunky (FC) to the underneath hair, the top of my hair (canopy), then another scrunched in the ends. I've been experimenting with adding a little White Rain gel but I don't know that it makes a difference. I then use my Aquis hair towel to scrunch a lot of the water out. I scrunch in a little jojoba oil on the ends...I do a lot of scrunching.

To dry....I use 4 little claw clips to clip up the roots of my hair and I let my hair air dry as long as possible. It's easier to do in the summer because I can do my make up, breakfast, cleaning, e-mail, etc. while my hair dries. When school starts, I may have to stand in front of a fan for awhile or something. I'm trying to do without a hair dryer.

If I know I'm going to be home all day (like a Saturday) I will put olive oil on my hair and put it in a bun for a few hours.

To sleep....I usually loosely French braid my hair and put jojoba on the last three inches or so.

Response to Wishing4's Routine (3bMi)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm no longer using White Rain...it's just too runny. I really like the Tresseme diluted with some aloe vera juice. Tresseme is too thick by itself. Plus aloe is supposed to be cleansing.

I'm also using the blow dryer on cool for a little bit if I'm going to wear my hair down. The fan blows it around to much, and I just am not comfortable going to work with hair that's really wet.

I do think the White Rain gel makes a difference on really humid days. Otherwise my hair gets bigger and bigger as the day goes on.

KAREN KEMPSON'S ROUTINE

Karen's Routine for 2Niii hair.......
September 6 2002 at 9:10 AM Karen (Login KLK7)

*Karen's Routine (not Karen Marie)*

My hair is naturally very dry and fragile. So for me, using the Curly Girl method of Conditioner-only washing and care has really helped my hair over the past 6 months (based on the book, "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey). I currently CO-wash almost everyday, followed by a distilled water rinse. Sometimes I add about a tsp. of ACV to this rinse. I use a leave-in of 100% aloe vera gel and conditioner mixed.

Once every two weeks, I use a lemon-aid rinse on my hair (recipe from the Curly Girl book = parts of conditoner and strained lemon juice). I never blow dry or use heating devices on my hair, except maybe hot rollers once or twice a year for special occassions. I do deep treatments often with whatever is in my product junkie stack of stuff. I do not use 'cone products. They don't work well on my hair.I have a host of allergies, so I find that the more simple and natural products work best for my scalp.

My favorite products to CO-wash with is:
Suave Naturals Aloe Vera conditioner
I also like to CO wash with Lush Veganese or Lush Okra

Some of my other favorite products include:
Gary Null's Heavenly Hair Cleanser
Lush "God of Hair" souped up with jojoba oil
Fruit of the Earth 100% aloe vera gel mixed with
AO Sea Buckthorn and Egg as a leave in
Wiseways Herbals Rinses
jojoba oil

I could not live without my:
seamless comb and satin pillowcase, both ordered from tenderheaded.com, a great company which I highly recommend.
Ficcare Maximus clip and Scunci snag-free bands to keep all this hair out of my way

LISA JANEY'S ROUTINE

No score for this post
December 5 2002, 9:31 PM

LisaJaney's Routine, CWC, CO-wash, etc. 2a-b,F,ii
July 23 2002 at 9:09 AM LisaJaney (Login LisaJaney)

CO-washing:
Get in shower, wet hair and body, wash face. Then, re-wet hair and apply mass amounts of cheap, light conditioner to it. I use probably 1 half-cup of White Rain Originals, Extra Body conditioner to do this. I know I have enough conditioner when the hair feels SLICK all the way through; prior to this, there will be spots that 'grab' my fingers as I try to work the conditioner through to the scalp and all the way to the ends. You HAVE to use a lot of conditioner, or the hair will NOT be clean and you end up looking greasy. Using too heavy a conditioner will also leave me greasy. Let this set on the hair while you wash/shave/whatever, taking care of the rest of your shower. When I've completed all the other 'showerly duties', I duck my head under the spray for a split second and begin working the conditioner again; this time, it will make a thin lather. Then I rinse, and rinse and rinse, and rinse some more. Not fully rinsing will leave me greasy, too. So, rinse LOTS! Then, I follow that up with a small amount of Mastey FreHair and rinse it out. Finally, a disturbingly cold bucket of water over my head, I curse a little, and I am done! Blot with a towel, put on a turbie twist for awhile, and comb out with my Revlon detangling comb, model #2512 ($1.28 at Walmart, really BOXY looking comb, really smooth)

I should add that when I am in CO-wash mode, I do occasionally clarify. Once a month I use shampoo (either Suave clarifying, or just do a nice Vinegar rinse - 4T ACV to a quart of warm water, between the WR and the FreHair) and another time during the month I do use shampoo and conditioner, generally Finesse Moisturizing.

CWC:
Get in shower, wet head and body, then apply conditioner to the length of my hair (I am really into Clairol Herbal Essences Fruit Fusions right now; the Revitalizing is nice, so is the Hydrating. Both leave the hair soft and smooth, and oddly tangle-resistant, which is a BOON to my fine tangle-prone hair!) Then apply a SMALL dollop of shampoo to the scalp and first few inches of hair. Doesn't lather like whipped cream, but that's OK. Doesn't HAVE to lather like whipped cream to WORK!!!!! OK, so now my head is in a lather, my length is soaking in (and being protected from the shampoo BY) the conditioner. Hold the length out of the way, off to the side, then rinse the scalp. When I think most all the shampoo is gone, release the length and rinse it all clean and clear. Then I condition the whole mess, scalp-to-ends, and rinse well. Follow with the nasty cold water, and blot dry, turbie-twist, comb out, air dry, etc....

"Products":
Amazon (bless that woman!) has gotten me started on bunning wet (a la Karen Marie). We spritz our hair with lavender-water (made by using a cup of distilled water and 2 drops of lavender EO in a mister-bottle) and I dampen my hair with that and bun it wet. The ends are looking up, as a result!
I do still OCASSIONALLY use Monoi, BUT (and may the masses have pity on me) find that it doesn't seem to work as well for me NOW as it did at the beginning. Maybe it is a mis-perception of mine, but I seem to think that my hair is tanglier with it; maybe it's attracting dirts.....but that could be a result of it being FARM season in this country. Spud fields kick up an unbelievable amount of dirt into the air. you wouldn't beLIEVE how much dust there can accumulate in my house in a two-day timespan. Yikes. Anyhow, I don't use Monoi as much now. I use it on my face and as a 'perfume' for hubby (he LOVES the vanilla monoi). I need to get me some sweet almond, and am going to start using jojoba as well and see if that works differently than the monoi or if its just ANY oil that is culprit in the tangling.

Hugs, and happy haircare!

Response to LisaJaney's Routine, CWC, CO-wash, etc. 2a-b,F,ii

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have switched to jojoba for good. That stuff absorbs like nobody's business, and doesn't make the hair tangly.....GREAT stuff, I cannot say ENOUGH good about it, really. (Do I sound like an infomercial yet?)

Apply the jojoba to the ends while the hair is still wet, and then (if there's any left when the hair is dry - really, this stuff absorbs fabulously ) brush it through with a BBB. A little on my palms and stroked onto the outer layers will calm the halo effect and leave the hair "like buttah"

Ya gotta get yourself some jojoba oil; your hair will thank you for it!!!

OH! And I recently tried the Fruit Fusions "for color treated hair", although I cannot remember the proper name for it ("for colortreated hair" was the sub-title, if you will) and it was really nice. Very gentle, and I prefer the smell of IT over the Revitalizing. Look for "two-fers" at WalMart, where they'll have a shampoo AND a conditioner, hooked together with plastic wrap, and you get BOTH for $3, instead of the normal "$3 each" price.

Hugs,
LJ

SANDHYA'S ROUTINE

No score for this post
December 5 2002, 9:32 PM

Sandhya's Routine as of 08/08/2002 - (hair 2b/c ii C )
August 8 2002 at 1:36 PM Sandhya (Login SandhyaMenon)

I wash my hair twice a week on Wednesday & Saturday.
On Wed its more like a rinse the real wash is on Saturday.
Steps:
1. Hot Oil treatment using Jojoba+ Rosemary Oil on Friday night.
2. Wash the hair on Saturday using Castile shampoo.
3. Apply Pantene Conditioner liberally, comb with a wide toothed plastic comb & cover the hair using a shower cap.
4. Do the rest of the bath, like shaving, pedicure etc.
5. It will be almost 20 minutes before I wash off all my conditioner.
6. Then I rinse using cold water.
7. Squeeze all water from hair and tie a towel around like a turban for may be 30 minutes or so.
8. Lightly spread Monoi all over and detangle the hair using fingers.
9. Lets it airdry, it takes an hour.
10. Comb and braid.

Every evening I spread a teeny bit of Monoi all over the length of my hair and do a single braid for night.\

I rarely use a brush & I dont do the 100 stroke at all.
But I like to finger comb & scalp massage.
Also from experience I have learned that good protein diet plays a role in healthy hair.

Vitamins I use UltraNourishair from GNC, BComplex, Vitamin E.

I rarely get split ends, and my hair type is normal & not very oily.
The last hair-cut I had is in Aug 2001.
I want to let it grow may be till 32" or so and trim 1" off to make the ends look nice.
At present it is 30" thats 6" in a year and looks decent.

It has not thinned at the end, But it may when it reaches tailbone or more.

By end of 2003 I will reach my First Goal.
After that I may trim like every 3 months or so to make it look neat at the ends and more healthy hair.

I am parting the hair from right now.
My ultimate goal is classic length ( 45" ) and nothing more than that. It will be like 3 more years to reach there. But I like healthy hair than long hair and if I think my hair doesnt look healthy at classic length I may even cut it back to Tailbone.

Also when I reach my ultimate goal I wish to visit GM Saloon once.

My hair idol is Solange.
