It's been a few days now, and we still haven't heard any feedback about the new Can of Whoop-Ass weapon. Has anyone tried the beta? Did you see any problems? Or was it so prefect that you didn't feel the need to respond. PLEASE RESPOND!!!

Please check out this new weapon, the summoning code is "Soda.Soda". It refills your health, and can also be used as a weapon in emergancies. To unpack the file, you'll need WinRAR, which you can find on Download.com, or the WinRAR website.

I don't know what's happen to this forum recently, but it's like nobody is interested in trying out new video game stuff anymore. Usually people jump at the chance to play with some new stuff. it might be because of a few things -

a) UT is running out of life (As soon as UT2K3 is out, UT will be left to 'ye olde' gamers)

b) We have announced that we're moving into our own engine, so a thought might be that everything in U4e will be just knocked about (rather than designed and implemented with care). This is crap, but I can see how people could think this...

c) People are getting caught up in heavy workloads, spending too much time out on the piss etc. to download and play.

d) Perhaps they thought a small package is not worth the effort just for a single weapon.

All these are only suggestions, I don't really know why people don't play. But from my experience from other projects with other people in a variety of circumstances, these pretty much some up the excuses I've had...

Sorry i'm late! heh heh!

I had a go, just took me ages to find a prog' to open Rar archives with.

It was okay but, most of it's affects were unnoticable, using it as a weapon jsut meant i got my ass kicked, because it took too long to throw and didn't do much to the bots when it hit, drinking was good but i only remembered i could drink it when i'd only jsut summoned it up! Heh heH! I think maybe if you could make it so when it's bouncing about it sprayed........ urmm! The icey stuff from the flamer when the pilot light is turned off, that'd be cool wouldn't be as difficult to hit people with then!
But otherwise models and stuff it is up to the usual U4E standards! :D

Did you realize that you have to hold down the mouse button to shake up the can until its reached a higher power before throwing? When its fully charged it can kill a newly respawned player.

But it's not really a weapon....

It's just ment to repenish your health, if you need to do so in a hurry. The weapon's part of the can is just for emergancies. It doesn't really have the power and aim to be a very useful weapon. I was kinda hoping though that one full health it might give you a tempory increase in speed, ie. a "Caffine Buzz". Sonic isn't too keen on this idea.

Please note that I'm completely honest with my opinions and I don't kiss ass just cause it makes people feel good. :P

While it is a great idea, and the crushing the can on your head afterwards is really really cool I just found it too hard to actually hit the guy with the can. Sure when I id it causes a lot of damage when fully charged, but it's just so hard to do. Refilling your health is more useful (but who drinks six cans of soda at a time anyway?! :D)

Because the refilling health was the original intent of the cans. The throwing of exploding cans was kinda just an after thought to give the cans a little bit of offensive ability.

Holger (and Shadow Dragon): Please read

Grim Reaper skins... PIA to get into the system and they don't work properly. The story ->

SD sent me a Grim Skin, he couldn't even get it to show in UT. With some tweaking, I got it into UT but there were some serious issues.
1) Every texture went in as a different skin (rather than team colours).
2) Also the original texture is not listed, however I worked around this by adding a "Fake" texture name in the INT file, and this worked.
3) Even the Face texture went as a skin.
4) Changing the Team option in UT on affected an area around the HUD, even though the skin file is just 1 texture...

Any ideas?

Hrmmmm!

I had a similar problem with the Putrifier model once, i even contacted the modeller, all he said was to replace the original skins and told me not to release it for obvious reasons.
I'm not sure if there is anything you can do now, unless Holger, (Coding extraodinaire!) can do something, but that means re coding Grimmy i should think a little bit, which would ALSO mean in the next release replacing subsequent file, and i believe that file was a particularly large one. Could be wrong but still!

Maybe if I host the forum?

I was thinking of writing some forum scripts to be hosted on my web page.

That way we have the flexability to add/remove certain features etc. (Like grouping feeds into user section and development section)

It probably wouldn't "look" as nice, but it could incorporate the features that ppl keep suggesting...

I like this forum...

Not only do I like this forum format, I also HATE registered forums, with AVERGANCE! I hate HUGE Sigs attached to every message! I hate the layout of the messages! Most of all, I HATE PASSWORDS!

Registered forums suck, and the people that like using them suck. Nothing says, "I'm a little 16 year old Techy Snob!" then a registered forum. And nothing draws in those internet urchants like a registered forum. They love leaving MINDLESS messages that everybody are going to have to look at for the next 5 years. One reply to a thread made a year ago and suddenly it's at the top of the list.

And the egotistical Sig files, those REALLY piss me off! Those losers spend more time on their Sig files then they do thinking of intellgent things to say! And then there's the 10,000 Smilely faces they seem to find, just to make thier messages more "Elite". Damn forum looks like a Saterday morning Cartoon! <GET A LIFE!!!!>

I like a clean forum, with only new messages. Old threads SHOULD die! And I like to see all new messages at a glance. I'm not wading through 50 threads just to see all of the new messages. I can see all of the ones here at a glance. And it uses very few graphics, so it's quick and easy to load. No waiting for the latest SIG mess to load up! Most importantly, it's easy for new people to use. They just type in their message and their name, and the post is online. NO REGISTERING!

that I found out that there are options in 9/10 of the registration forums to NOT display sigs, avatars, and smilies. So if you dont like them, dont look at them. And a few registration forums have the option to post an annonymous message so you dont have to register. The advantages to reg forums are that active threads stay on top, you can sticky messages so they always stay at the top, and many other admin powers.

why do you think no one takes U4E seriously? Well for starters, they see that you don't have a proper forum. If your forum looks like crap, they won't care. It sucks hardcore, but unfortunately, that's one of the factors they use in deciding who gets the games.... "Hey if he can't even run a forum properly, why does he deserve our attention..."

-It's not the "registering forum" that is crappy, it's this piece of crap with no features that is.

-You bash other mods as if yours is the only thing worth playing. IT'S NOT. Yes it is good. No it is not a gift from the Gods that we should all revel in daily.

-You've already bashed things like realism mods and console games, which incidentally have the biggest following of gamers out there. Case in point, go check out how many servers run U4E. Now how many run TO, INF, SF, etc.

-GTA3 is not the biggest selling console game of all time for no reason you know.

-If you're not going to take this place seriously, why should anyone else? At this rate they're never going to come to you for a game, you have to go to them. Get aggressive (the good aggressive, not the aggressive you show here.) Go to them, tell them "Here's what I can do, I want to do this stuff for you" and see what happens. I get the feeling you're trying to make them come to you. NOT happening, guaranteed.

Of course, you'll need to show them some of your work. Remember, it's quality, not quantity. If they ask for a sample, I'd suggest maybe showing them the QSG, the BFG, and the Zapper. If they want more, show them some of your player classes.

Now believe it or not, I do know what I'm talking about. So you can do two things.

One is to take some of my advice, or whatever you get out of this, and start turning things around (remember, get aggressive, how did you get your job anyway? I bet they didn't come to you first!)

Or, you can delete my message, pretend I don't exist, and continue doing what you're doing. In that case, bbest of luck.

another advantage of a new forum

Max you'll love this one, it will save you a lot of stress.

You casn "stick" a thread to the top of the forum. This way, even if it doesn't get replied to, it will be at the top all the time.

Why is this useful?

"WHY WON'T THE MONSTER MASTER'S MONSTERS ATTACK"
"WHERE CAN I GET THIS PATCH OR THAT PATCH"
"DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE FLAMETHROWER/SHRINKER BUGS YET??!"

Simply stick an FAQ up there, and when someone asks one of these questions, point them at the FAQ and lock their thread. Easy, and would save a LOT of stress, guaranteed.

U4eT crashes when i fire tomahawk..

hi there UTers =}

i have installed the UT4e pack and it all runs perfectly until i try to fire the tomahawk missile and my game crashes.

an ilegal operation error appears saying :

UNREALTOURNAMENT caused an invalid page fault in
module SOFTDRV.DLL at 0167:10d363b4.

if i fire the missile using alternative fire, it fires properly with no problems.

i have re installed all mods to no avail,
the same mods work perfectly with no errors on
my friends machine.


Here is what im running:

i have initially installed UT game of the year edition v4.32 and installed the v4.36 update.

i then installed the U4eT v6 pack and the update aswell.

i have also installed bonus packs 1 to 4.

i am using an nVidea TNT2 m64 card with the latest drivers and directx.

has anybody seen this problem before?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Check the "Don't try to draw tomahawk window" (or something) in the Tweaking part of the U4eT mod settings...

I've always said that the tomahawk is a camper weapon. Perhaps it crashed because of your computer's moral conscienciousness :>

Can we play UT AND U4EF in the same server using BDBvote or anoter one?

Sometime we configure an UT server with mods using BDBvote, like -an example- FragBall..

So we can play l.e. tradicional CTFs maps or FRagBall maps.

Now:
How is possible to configure the same thing for play tradicional UT-CTF-gameplay mode OR using U4EF MOD?

Same server, same maps and 2 possibilities: UT or U4EF.
Or:
How to play CTFs using UT weapons-noClass or U4EF weapons+class in the same server?

Any help is welcome

U4E-Arcane??

hey, after playing the u4e fortress mod, i am wondering whether a magic only mod, using the superb spells and hud dispay for choosing them can be incorperated into u4e. the wizard in the mod is my favorite charecter, takes along time to get high power spells but is pretty unstoppable when it reaches that stage. the spells are really kool, very good looking and effective and i just wanted to know if it could be done. i mean, u got u4e, gauntlet and now fortress, how bout u4e arcane? i know theres dark magic but to be honest, their last attempt was really really poor, but when i played the magic side of this, it was amazing, way better than dark magic. plz let me know if this can be done, it would be a great addition to an already great mod

Accidental Flop?

"accidental flop", who the hell are you kidding...the last version sucked, big time. i had been a big fan of it, then i tried the new version, doing things that u4e incorperated with seperate spells for specific choices of magic studied. i hope dark magic does get its act together and try and rival what u4e accomplished. ok, i admit they ahve a large team and know alot, but even so, whatever that last version was, it was so bad it put me completely off. the spells were bad, mainly graphical, with a spell selection bar at the bottom a complete shambles. please, do rectify this, i hope to hear and check with the dark magic page but i hope you do improve it, it needed more work than i could mention. sure it was probably better than anything i could ever do as i dont really understand how u do change the weapons and make ur own, but i do know when its good and worth the download, which dark magic wasnt last time round.

Brief Defensive motion!

I don't want to fill this forum with Dark Magic talk, however i'll say this, the last darkmagic release was a beta and i belive it came with many statements saying how much of a beta it was, it was i believe more of a test for the particle system. MANY many improvements have been made now, it will have it's own maps, weapons, spell casting system. It ill infact be a total rehall mod, there will also be class models and new monster models, i know! I'm skinning some :D.
Trust me the next DMUT release is worth waiting for.
Theres more, i'm just tired! Trust me? Trust the shadow dragon for he is the epi-centre of good!

U4E has a large team?

Until recently, U4E was just me and Holger. Sonic joined up a few months ago, and Mark came on recently, but it's hardly a "Large" team. I still don't have any help doing art, for one thing. And nobody has signed up as our full time level maker. Quaz was there for a bit, but he got busy with other stuff, whatever that means. I hear TacOps and Strike Force both had teams in excess of 20 members! I don't know what all of those people do, but I imagine that nobody has to work all that hard in either of those camps. (Aspeically considering how much little creativity and design work goes into a "realism" mod)

I've been here since about last June, back when I did a firehammer weapon(very pathetic, but my first try). After that it was the grenade launcher, new sniper bombs, the new armors, some u4ef map tweaks, then gauntlet, then some u4ef spells, the more tweaks and so on....

We've GOT to get those armors in...

I love the new armors! They have got to be in the next release! Have you made any progress on the Armor Spawning object? When it's done, Holger should be able to add it like an AMMO to the U4ET mod menu, so people can have the Armor Spawner in any map they want. (It would also be cool to have a PowerUp spawner, Holger has some old U4E powerups... somewhere...)

Boy, Holger has forgotten to add alot of your stuff. Of course, the Grenade Launcher was never really completed. As I recall, it has some postioning errors. You might want to revive the old code, since you are now alow more experanced. Holger did add the changes to the Grenade names, right? It should be easy to pop in when it's finished.

funnily enough, a good number of the core team pretty much agree's with you on the quality of the test release. but enough about that, it is not really very representational of the quality of the mod.

however, if you dare post a similar style of non-bullshit feedback on our onsite forums, we may come knocking on your door for beta testing purposes. we need opinions that arent so blinded by fanatiscism.

We're not kidding anyone, because this isn't a joke. If it was, it would be a very bad one at our cost.

The beta - which, considering all mods usually call their unfinished releases beta should be called alpha - only got release because I foolhardily promised a release even before our lead coder at that time had finished the first core built.
I ended up implementing a couple of not small features on the last day - actual support of the loadouts, for instance, and a useable display of spells.

Unfortunately due to bad communication the previous version got released, and when I noticed ModSquad had already gone ahead and reviewed it. I guess we didn't write Test in big enough letters.
I wanted to correct this with a follow-up release a few days later but in the foul mood caused by certain words of choice everyone preferred to be less open from now, and wait for some more improvements to take place before releasing anything.

And if you where really such a big fan you might have turned up on out not-so-secret forum sometimes.

Why do other mod authors keep popping up here???

It's weird that so many mod authors keep popping up on our little forum. I wonder just how much of the UT community actually visits our forum on a regular bases? Of course, they only seem to squack when somebody starts taking shots at them. The last time I insulted ChaosUT, they where ALL over this place in an hour!

3D Engine demo

BTW - The speed of the demo is NOT relative to the in-game speed. The only way I've found to record it at the moment was to take snapshots each screen refresh, and paste them together in a video. However, the video made sure the minimun length of time a frame was on screen was about 1/10th of a second, which obviously is not as good as in the game...

We need some beta testing on the "Can of Whoop Ass"

We have a new toy for U4E matches, and this one you drink. It's called a Six-Pack of Whoop Ass, and you can use it to heal yourself during the match. Or, if you are the more distructive sort, you can shake up the can and toss it out for a quick explosion of Soda Goodness.

Anyways, Sonic has put alot of time into this, and we'd like some feedback to see if there's anything that can be enhanced with the Weapon. Here's the link:

Holger doesn't really ever forget about U4E, but he does diappear for awhile now and then. Last I heard, he was on vaction. For him, that could be awhile. I, myself, don't have two pennys to rub together, so my vaction is sitting in front of the TV with a cold soda, watching Stern. But, to each his own...
