Why is Doyle so weak at the end of the movie?

When Adam grabs Doyle's arm/gun, they struggle a bit. Doyle drops to his knees and while Adam and him talk a bit, Doyle remains kneeling as if he's injured. The way his arms droop as Adam carries him to the hole also indicate that he has little energy left in him.

Did Adam injure him somehow or what happened?
