I haven't seen them yet... it's certainly good news that the DVDs contain all the episodes of each series, as the previous sets were utter ripoffs, but the apparent lack of extras is somewhat annoying. They could easily have stuck on the albums (unavailable for close on thirty years now), Gordon Murray on Swap Shop, scans of the storybooks, interviews... there's probably even test footage of some sort knocking about somewhere. They could even have made multi-angle shots from the black and white prints filmed from a different angle... but I suppose that's pushing it a bit!
As for the picture quality, I really hope that they've done something to improve it. The prints that Channel 4 have been using since 1994 are pretty ropey, although the prints that the BBC hold have always seemed much clearer and steadier. Perhaps they own the original masters and negatives? | |
