| - Apart from when comedy shows parody television logos in sketches ('Benny Hill' with WLT: Womens Lib Television and Angela instead of Anglia) has anyone got any memories of when the television production companies would 'pervert' their own logos. For example TVS would normally be multicoloured on a black background but when 'Summertime Special' would be broadcast it became magenta on a white background. What that had to do with summer I do not know. 'Spitting Image' would replace the 'Central' caption under the sphere with 'Central Independent Television Is Proud To Present Spitting Image in Eddy Shah Vision' and then the sphere would explode. The Thames logo would be replaced with cartoon breasts for 'The Kenny Everett Video Show', who would end with tearing up the Thames logo proper in reverse. And recently when Channel 5 had their evening of 'Classic Christmas' on Boxing Day the line " Here they are now Morecambe and Wise" was sang over the Thames fanfare. Lastly on the first Comic Relief night (not the stageshow) a rednose was stuck on the revolving globe and a sticker with Comic Relief was placed across BBC1. |

"Hickory House", the long-forgotten ITV lunchtime series made by Granada and featuring the threadbare puppets Dusty Mop and Humphrey Cushion, used to start with the Granada 'G' metamorphosising into a house Unfortunately I can't find any details of this on the net, and I haven't seen the show myself since it was actually on, although I did find a couple of photographs of a rather dilapidated-looking Humphrey Cushion here - http://www.jediman.free-online.co.uk/childrenstv/Childrens_TV_Index.htm?Hickory_House/Hickory_House.htm&1
Then, of course, there was the Yorkshire TV yellow 'bird' thing zooming off into the animated titles of "3-2-1". And although it rarely made it into the actual transmissions, "Fist Of Fun" actually started with the boxing girl dropping down into the titles from behind the BBC2 '2'.
Not sure if it counts, but all of Victor Lewis-Smith's television productions end with a hand manually spinning the Associated Rediffusion logo... |

Indeed it does count as does the old Channel 4 logo done as a 5 originally used for the Hamlet Cigar advert. In case anyone forgot the logo turned into a smiling face smoking a cigar. | |
