Goldfrapp's new album has received fairly luke-warm reviews but it is an excellent album. Completely different from "Felt Mountain", but still great.
It seems the sticking point for most critics is that the record's general sauciness is unbecoming of Alison Goldfrapp! She has been identified as some kind od torch baladress or (gawd-help-us), a "diva" (what a horrible word). Thankfully the new album challenges those ideas and with its sleazy lyrics and harsh electronic sheen, "Black Cherry" seems as indebted to Soft Cell as "Felt Fountain" was to Lalo Schiffrin.
If you're hankering after some gorgeous atmospheric electro pop, go out and buy it.
