If it is a special gift, I would opt for a Nakaya urushi or tamenuri pens: it is handmade, it is, from all I have read, an excellent pen, with the company dealing with the buyer personally to decide what is eventually needed, even offering suggestions. If price is thedeterminant, go for one of its high end pens, or buy two of the standard tamenuri pens with different nib widths. Go to its website www.nakaya.org to see what it is on offer.
I would not recommend a Montblanc. If it would be used often, it would almost certainly leak, and its "precious resin" is so fragile that it cracks, and it costs an arm and leg to repair. Mine does.
If it is a gift to be remembered, better give something that would not have the problems the Montblanc has.
