These were the notepads that I used in school, they were reasonably priced and had reasonably thick paper. However, sometimes the paper grain wasn't consistent so if you use a fountain pen, there might be some bleeding and your lines may come out thicker than you intended.
I too haven't been able to find this Cambridge notepad anymore.
I currently use the Montblanc pad paper and have heard good things about Rhodia papers, although I've yet to experience them first-hand.
The Montblanc pad paper is thin, but doesn't bleed too much. But it is textured and not smooth.
What I currently use nowadays is 24 lbs (medium heavy-weight) Inkjet printer paper of over 90 brightness that I punch holes in and attach into 1/2 inch 3 ring binders. Be sure to use Injket paper as the grain is smaller so the ink doesn't bleed. With this, I can make my own notepads in varying thicknesses with varying page counts. The only drawback is that these pages would not be off-white.
I also use an overhead transparency between pages so I don't leave an impression on other pages.
