I too have a Pelikan M800 series with a fine nib. It is a desk pen for the most part. As a preference, I like a fatter pen and writing with it un-posted so the 800 is nearly perfect in that regard. I agree about the expectations of a "fine" nib ... although with Noodler's black mine writes an equivalent line to a 0.7 gel pen which is what I use for a a "carry around".
If you wouldn't mind posting a picture of a writing sample with both pens I would enjoy that.
