Lucky to attend my first San Francisco Pen Show this past weekend with a stylophile friend. Hoping my prognosis was not terminal for a lefty with poor handwriting who often smudges, I bravely entered a new world of highly educated pen lovers. I was quickly directed to Susan Wirth who was a fountain pen expert, who can help leftys quickly find a fountain pen that will bring success. We quickly discarded oblique left and right nibs. We proceeded with me making dots and vertical and horizontal connected letter "V"s. Part gypsy, part instructor, but clearly very knowledgable she finally told me to write slowly and lightly. After 10 nibs- 2 clearly were the best-a
Parker accounting extra fine and modified Parker fine stub both gave me comfortable scratch free writing. After I thanked her she directed me to Maria of the Ink Palette who gave me insight on several brands of fast drying inks. As I love blue,(note my blu banded panograph photos) and always use a rollerball I finally purchased a midnight blue lacquer Orpheo by Dupont. Beautiful finish with platinum contrast and a neat movable hinge on the pen pocket clip. It alsohas this unique inner sleeve design that beutifully clicks when pen is closed, but when seated on pen it doesn't touch or scratch laquer as you slide it on. I hope to purchase the Blue Laquer Caran D'ache Varius Fountain Pen with extrafine nib-tried it,perfect balance and easy to use. To conclude a great day, they call my name to say I won a free fountain pen donated by Monteverde.
A blue and gold Regatta was generously awarded(picture enclosed).
It only came with a medium nib but the rep. told me he would send me
a new Cambria, marble blue with a fine nib. He would not let me return the other pen. Great day, great people, almost as much fun as I have with my watch buddies. Hope I did not ramble too much-warm regards, Nick
