Polishing sliver trim

Allow me to apolgize in advance for asking a question that I am sure must have been posted before. I did a search of the archives but could find nothing.

I have several pens with silver trim -- a Montegrappa Symphony for example -- and the silver tarnishes as I rotate my way through my collection with filling and writing. I have not polished any of them for fear that I might damage the celluloid, lacquer, and other delicate materials next to the silver. Others must have faced and solved this problem. What solutions -- literal and figurative -- can you suggest?
