- something heavy-ish, i like it to feel substantial in the hand.
- mid-thickness (not too fat, like most fountains, but not skinny like a cross).
- roller-ball compatible. i'm not yet up for a fountain, and traditional ball-points just dont work w/ my writing.
- can either be a twister or with a cap.
- ideally NOT something garish or over-wrought. something that would fly in a business setting.
- under $500

what do you suggest? i have one in mind, but i'm looking for others to consider...

Dupont Orpheo. Fairly heavy, very well made with Chinese lacquer finish. Under $500 new. Several styles to choose from. Yes, I know the image is a fountain pen, but you get the idea.

Montblanc Carbon Steel

June 1 2008, 10:26 PM

I love the Montblanc Solitaire Carbon Steel (reference # 05827). The stainless body and carbon fiber cap look wonderful together, much less common than the traditional black resin. They have a professional, elegant appearance and a very smooth feel when writing. It's a nicely unique design which is distinctive in business settings and enjoyable during any type of writing.

The retail is higher than you're looking for but it can be obtained for less. Fountain Pen Hospital has it available for under $500.
