Geneva & Frankfurt (for 24 hours)

My GF and I are heading over to Geneva in May for a few days to visit a friend who has recently been deployed there for some diplomatic work.

The only activity I have penciled in is a visit to the Patek museum so we're open to suggestions on interesting things to do and great places to eat.

As well, we were informed today that our connection home via Frankfurt would require a 1 day layover. Rather than finding a more efficient way home we've decided to spend a day there and I'd like to hear what you'd do in Frankfurt if you only had 24 hours.. (fly in at noon, out noon the next day)

Nothing on Frankfurt but for Geneva...

Apart from all the watch boutiques down Rhone Road and the PP Museum, there are also non-watch things.

The old (medieval) town up the hill and St Peter's Cathedral are fun to explore. When you get to the Place de la Madelaine, a roundabout surprise awaits. The Fountain Jet d'Eau on the lake is fun to stroll to and along the promenade. There is even a swimming pool built into the lake near the Jet so you can watch crazy people freeze outdoors in May happy.gif

Good trip!

Geneva and Frankfurt visit, a few suggestions...

March 24 2009, 7:04 PM

Hello dennis,

In addition to MTF's excellent suggestions for Geneva I would recommend visiting the La Cite du Temps which is a small permanent museum dedicated to Swatch watches. It's a lot of fun and has every single Swatch watch since 1983. They have a bar and restaurant on the first 2 floors. And best of all the museum is free admission.

For restaurants, I'd recommend Brasserie Lipp. Here's a few food pics from our Piaget visit in Oct 2008:

Next to the Cornavin train station is a very fun hole-in-the-wall place for all you can eat sauteed shrimp and pomme frites. Take a look at DRMW's post on the PuristSPro TimeOut forum:

And for a more upscale dining experience, try Brasserie du Parc des Eaux-Vives. Here's a link to the pics I posted on PuristSPro HoMe forum:

I've been to Frankfurt on business trips several times in the past few years. I'd recommend visiting the Zeil which is the main shopping district in Frankfurt.

Enjoy your trip and hope to see you post pics of your vacation!
