My family and I will be spending some time in Europe this summer followed by a Cruise on the Queen Mary II.

Any feedback or recommendations regarding the QM II will be appreciated. Friends have told me it's a lovely ship.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

Looks like you'll be our first reporter about this glorious trip.

You lucky thing!

Please do...do...do report back to us as I cannot recall any previous cruise reports on ThePuristS. Definitely not on the QM II.

Regards,

MTF

Back from vacation

I will start with an apology for not having pictures. My wife is the photographer in the family and she will only use 35mm film. I am also just too lazy so no excuses.

Home base for land touring was London. We leased an apartment a block away from from Harrods. The annual sale was going on so the streets and store were busseling.

After a few days we took the chunnel to Paris. That was my fastest, smoothest most comfortable train ride ever. We had a really nice time visiting sites of interest capped off with a visit to the Loius Vuitton store. It was like 2 for 1 day at Walmart. It was so crowded it was actually unpleasant. We did just a little shopping and were out in flash.

A few days later we boarded the ship. Without pictures, it is difficult to explain so I won't bore you. In short, our accomodations were excellent, the food fantastic and the ports variable.

A site of interest was the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain. The city itself is beautiful. The museum, designed by Frank Gehry, is spectacular. The artwork was fabulous.

Once again, I realize without pictures my descriptions can be a soporific. If anybody is interested in more details, I will be happy to provide them.

Jeff

Thanks for update.

Indeed....we are spoiled on the WWW with digital photos....we are such 'visual' creatures!

if you're in the US and you shoot 35mm film

August 3 2009, 7:29 AM

you can bring it to walgreens and they'll develop and scan a 36exposure roll of film onto a cd for about $5.

cvs does the same, although i find that the fuji machines in walgreens are better than the kodak machines in cvs.

target does the same for $1.99 and costco for around $3. although i have to say target quality is the worst.

that way you'll have a bunch of digital pictures for us to look at wink.gif

Queen Mary 2

August 4 2009, 2:43 PM

It's been one of those things on my list to do; conduct a transatlantic crossing on the QM2. I'm specifically looking at doing the crossing from New York to Southampton.

On the boat, which restaurant did you like the most? Did you attend any of the events on the boat (cooking class, wine class, shows, etc.)? Which event did you appreciate the most?

Very anxious to see your photographs!
