Shanghai.. i did all this in a day..

I based myself in Suzhou.. and took the bullet train over to Shanghai.. the ride takes approximately 35 minutes.. the train is in good condition, on time.. but a bit on the crowded side because they sell standing tickets too.. and since there is no designated standing area.. those with standing tickets can stand anywhere they wish..

The train goes up to 247 km per hour !

My driver took us to the French Concession area.. it is different from the other parts of Shanghai because of the leafy boulevards.. i hope they don't redo this are in the name of development. It would be a shame

Then we strolled around the Taikang Road area. There are many chic cafes, interesting boutiques and art galleries.

We drove across the Nanpu and Lupu Bridges to get to Pudong.

We dined at Queen Mudanting in Pudong. They are supposed to have the best Xiao Long Pau in Shanghai ( or at least that is the opinion of my friend who resides in Shanghai )

Nice Fido Dido couple who was kind enough to pose for me

World Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai. This is the China Pavilion.

The Shanghai Financial Centre is the tallest building in Shanghai. Jin Mao is the third tallest.

Pearl Tower is the second tallest building in Shanghai standing at 468 meters

You will see many interesting sculptures like this in Shanghai.

Moganshan art district

Eric Moller's house.. it's now a hotel.. but legend has it that a Scandinavian guy built it when his daughter had a dream about a castle.
[linked image]

Nanjing Lu.. with pretty lights once the sun sets... if you are too tired to walk down this pedestrian street, hop onto the shuttle trains at either end !
[linked image]

Xintiandi.. the most happening place in Shanghai.. bars, cafes and restaurants galore

And of course, no visit to Shanghai is complete without walking along the Bund. Since the Bund is undergoing renovation and i could not get a good photo along the Huangpu river, we went to a look out point on the Pudong side.

Liling, I saw 3 mad things in your post.

July 8 2009, 2:41 AM

1. You toured Shanghai in one day.

2. Passengers are allowed to stand in a bullet train that travels more than 200km/h.

3. You did not take photos of pretty Shanghai girls for us.

Hey, is the man holding the dog is actually the dog-eater?

Regards
Ling

I just saw smog

July 8 2009, 4:10 AM

My immediate health concern was the smog.......

Strangely, one of the worst Shanghainese meals I had was in.....er.....Shanghai happy.gif

At the great Peace Hotel, where they put up US Presidents and other dignitaries during the Cold War....maybe it was a punishment?

Thanks for the tour, LiL.

Regards, MTF

Hie Ling...

1. You toured Shanghai in one day.
( yup.. we were supposed to make another day trip but we were too lazy )

2. Passengers are allowed to stand in a bullet train that travels more than 200km/h. ( the train has good suspension.. you won't even realise you are going that fast ! )

3. You did not take photos of pretty Shanghai girls for us. ( did not see that many pretty girls.. maybe a few in Xintiandi.. so i guess that's the place to hang out ! or perhaps i was too busy looking out for the hot guys )

Hey, is the man holding the dog is actually the dog-eater? ( Yes.. he is a dog eater.. how did you figure that out ? )

Thanks LiL888 for sharing the adventure with us...

Standing room in the train might be annoying but I guess if there were pretty girls standing near me that would be a great train ride. happy.gif

The Xiao Long Bao looks tasty are they as good as DinTaiFung?

Hope to see more of your travels!
