best ergonomics of any large sedan I've ever experienced - the outside doesn't look excessive, interior space is abundant (rear leg room really is limo like) and with a trunk that can swallow pretty much anything.
Excellent handling, excellent power train performance, an elegant without being ostentatious exterior and cavernous interior and trunk, I have yet to find a suitable replacement and will likely look for another one owner low mileage example when it comes time to replace; hopefully not for another 5-10 years!
(aesthetically I also really like the contemporaneous S class extended, but short of the S65, I like the overall package of the Bimmer better)
For smaller sedans, I think I prefer the E34 M5 aesthetically, but E39 for overall handling and performance.
Haven't tried the E55...
