Bought in 1978, a 1967 (IIRC) Volvo station wagon. I mean, it was a testimony to the power of optimism against decay -or something. Driver's side door was held on with duct tape. No passenger's side door in front. Sheet of plastic tarp, also held on with duct tape. You started it with a screwdriver in what was left of the steering column.
Of course, it ran like a top, nobody bothered to touch it (who would be that stupid?) and it ran fine for my junior and senior years in high school. Cosmetic disaster, and I was far too preoccupied with other matters to consider anything resembling "fixing it up" but it ran eerily well for a car so obviously on its last legs. Always started up right away, felt fine to drive. . . it was a little weird actually.
Never even had to change the duct tape
