as a sports car enthusiast, June 8, 1948 is an important date. It marks the date when an unknown brand produced its first sports car. It was an all aluminum, mid engine car, type 356, also known as No. 1. Yes 63 years ago, the first car to wear the Porsche name was completed. I believe it currently resides in the Porsche Museum. Its much sleaker looking than the later 356s, and as mentioned was a mid engine set up rather than rear engine. IMHO although it is simple by todays standards its simplicity adds to its beauty.
Its hard to imagine that Porsche's first car produced a mere 35 BHP. I generally think of them as building some of the most powerful and successful sports and racing cars such as the 917, the 930, the 935, the 962, the 959, and the current GT2RS.
Happy Birtday to N0.1 from my Boxster RS60 Spyder.
