What's nice on a new track is having someone you have faith in to follow around for a lap or two. Makes getting your eye in and understanding the lines waaay easier. And the rest of the time a lot more enjoyable. Particularly when you have limited time. The guys I used to race with (*much* faster than me) used to let me tag onto them during practice so I'd be able to use the whole 15min session somewhat productively.

I definitely know what you mean when the ESP etc jumps in. Like the first time I drove an ABS car on a track...the thunk and pulsing pedal made me jump out of my skin. Especially when you're so alert and primed up and didn't think you'd hit the pedal that hard. Same goes for engaging ESP...until I got used to the noises and vehicle reaction (which is generally benign), I'd get a massive adrenaline jolt thinking I'd just broken something on the car...

For me, bikes are definitely more fun. But they're also a lot of work to prepare and a GP125 is anything but turnkey. The tech side of it is fun - jetting, gearing, suspension - but also a lot of commitment and time before you can even get on track. As for the injury side...well, it's always there, but I'm old and slow now...
And as for cars, the last tracktime was in a 50year old, no-rollcage convertible with as much rubber on all 4 corners as the Avandator would have on one...a different kind of fun. Circumspect fun.
