I'm offered a corvette from 1957.
Who can tell me more about this car and where I have to put attention to.
Which different versions where produced and what is the best to own.

A great year for a Corvette

September 13 2009, 6:52 PM

My first Corvette was a 1957, what a fun car. I drove my 57 all over the place.

A few questions.

Original condition or restored (body on or off)?

Original engine?

3, 4 speed or automatic?
Power top?
Power window?

Is the original serial number plate mounted on the body on the driver door frame?

Condition of chrome, especially the tail lights?

4 barrel carb, dual 4 or fuel injected?

Condition of body panels?

Any rust on the frame?

Any certification (NCRS regional or national or Bloomington Gold)?

Prices are all over depending on the details.

PM me for more info.

Does the seller have the original radio?

A few more points.

September 13 2009, 9:31 PM

Serial number range is E57S10001 through E57S106339.

There is no factory records as to the colors that the cars were painted, they only know the cars were painted one of the seven optional colors.

Many numbers can help mechanically authenticate this car.

Engine Suffix, Carburetor, Generator, Block Casting and Distributor.

In 1957 they produced a special RPO model of 43 high performance fuel injected cars with a cold air induction system, the rarest of the 57's.

Another important issue is how is the fit of the convertible top to the body, winsheild header and windows.

apologies to Jerry, sorry for....

late reply but after seeing the corvette in real life and checking your point I was a bit down.
The car looked realy great and was in great/excellent condition.
After checking all your point I came to the conclusion that this was not a collector piece because a lot of parts were not original. the body was in perfect shape with a nice paintjob but also new.
It was not a car to collect but more to buy and drive/enjoy.
offcourse the asking price went down a lot and it was sold to a friend of mine for 50K euro's
Thanks again for your expertise.

Regards,

Koen S
