It's a fairly common observation or suggestion (almost a cliche) that an individual who appears to delight in any loss by a girl or woman in athletic competition probably feels - as Steph was asking - threatened by a determined female. Cliches are often accurate.
A couple of alternative possibilities are that such a person simply has a dismal outlook on life and wants desperately to share it with people....Or that he's just a person who enjoys annoying others - and the internet is full of people of that type.
