The Herald-Mail is a newspaper serving a number of western Maryland communities and maintains a website: Herald-Mail.com. On March 8 Herald-Mail reporter Andrew Mason provided the following account.

"The Smithsburg sophomore defeated Evan Peck of Marriotts Ridge 18-10 in a preliminary 103-pound bout Friday afternoon, becoming the first girl in the history of the Maryland Class 2A-1A state tournament to win a bout."

One could also point out that if she had lost in the first round she would not have faced an undefeated wrestler in her second contest. Tournaments aren't aligned that way.

Unlkely that anybody doubts the accuracy of Chris's detailed numbers - might well be accurate to ten decimal places.

There's a high probability, though, that few of those who frequent this forum are going to pay attention to or care about those figures, viewing them as about as important as the annual rainfall numbers of a distant city.

People like to learn about the achievements of female wrestlers and understand well enough that girls don't generally win against male opponents....Those who do deserve credit and attention.
